it could be several things, some ideas are answered above. From personal experience, I had a dragging feeling when I started to do FMQ on my machine. I discovered that the quilt was hanging down over the sewing table and creating a tugging action as I tried to move the quilt around. Hope your problem is as simple as all those discribed above. They are all easy fixes and with practice comes confidence!

A SUpreme Slider will take care of the problem.

If you have some gardening gloves that fit well and have the little rubber bumps on the fingers, you might try those to see if it makes a difference. The sewing ones work better, but you could use those until you can buy some.

I raise the pressure on my presser foot all the way up. lower the feed dogs, wear gloves, mostly gardening gloves that have little rubber dots, sometimes a supreme slider, not real wild about it, and use my darning foot. I had to oil my darning foot but, I've made lots of quilts using that foot.

When I took a FMQ class, one of the exercises we did was to try our machine on all tension settings JUST to see which setting works best. Play on a scrap sandwich and mark the settings, that way you can go back to it later.

I hate gloves, so I use the rubbery shelf liner instead of gloves. I just cut two peaces the size of my hand & that works great for me & are easy to move around your project. Also you don't have to keep putting on & taking off the gloves.

There's also the quilting halo. Here's a post on it - http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-14693-1.htm
I've used one a few times and really like it - my hands and shoulders don't bother me as much after quilting for awhile |

Hancock Fabrics carry them. They might be on sale today along with an extra 10% off coupon. The coupon is on facebook and maybe even their website. Call them first to be sure you store has them.
Maybe the dollar store ones work too though. |
