Yes, that is a lovely piece you are doing...sorry I did not know what you were doing when I wrote my first reply.....do the directions give you any help in how to appliqué the GFG to bkgrnd ? My first thought, just looking at the pic....fold bkgrnd piece vert & hor., crease...do same with the joined cluster of GFG, pin down matching those press lines and appliqué the edges...maybe I would baste thru that middle, just to give it some stability...depending on the overall size...I think I would at the end leave that bkgrnd fabric on...not trim away as one does in some hand appliqué work...I am just guessing now...not there to see/ feel it....quite a challenge you have created for yourself....

I did not even pay any attention to the directions when I started doing it, I just liked the design and jumped in. I only have a couple more hexies to put on the last set of the main hexagons and then will decide on my final layout. I had it laid out the way I think I want it but have handled it so many times trying to decide on my background I don't even know how I had it laid out. The good news is that I almost always take pictures of my layouts to make sure I have enough contrast. Amazing what a photo shows that the naked eye does not see.
