Hexies

1 Attachment(s)
I have been making 1" hexies into flowers and was thinking of using diamonds to put them together. Anyone know what size diamonds to buy? I'm guessing 1" BUT what angel? 45 degree or 60 degree?? To make green "leaves" like the blue in this one??

I wish I had used this setting with my hexies. It is so pretty. I did see a friend sewing one this way. Seems she sort of sewed the flowers to the background and then trimmed the excess away. Not sure if this is the proper way to do it but it worked for her.

I would put 2 of your finished hexagon flowers side by side and then measure the little diamond empty space to get the measurement. Since your hexagons are individual to you, you will need to determine your own size diamonds.

The diamonds should be the same measurement as the side of your hexes. Take four of your hexes and arrange them and you will discover the angle. Might just check the website of

You will need the 60-120-60-120 degree diamond shape.

That is a beautiful quilt -- I have the hexies and the diamond shapes and hope to do something like this too. I think the advice given here is correct. Good luck!

I have been keeping an eye on this because I have used both the hexies and the diamonds - but not together. My 60 degree diamonds I use to do the tumbling blocks quilt - which when put together make a hexagon. And since the interior angle on a hexagon is 120 degrees, half would be 60 degrees.

And the 45 degrees doesn't work out for me mathematically - because the angle for the interior of the center instead of being 120 - which is as it would be in the 60 degree diamond it would 135 degrees for the 45 degree diamond.

Please post when you find out, I am curious if my math is correct.
