Can anyone give me tips on putting binding on a hexagon shaped candle mat?
|
Hello and welcome from California. I am sure someone will be able to help you.
|
Hello and Welcome from Northern Indiana ! Glad you joined us
When I did it I just sewed the front on slowly- then attached the back the normal way by hand -- maybe someone else has another suggestion |
Cut your binding on the bias and apply like any other. When you get to an angle: stitch up to the 1/4 inch on the next side, needle down, raise the presser foot and swivel
the piece to line up the piece for straight line sewing. Repeat this for all sides. End the binding as you would for a regular quilt. When you are ready to finish and hand stitch the binding down, again stitch up to the 1/4" site and fold back a small chevron in the binding to make it line up with the next side to sew. Clear as mud? Good luck! Oh yes, I'm glad you're here. You'll find it a friendly place. |
Welcome always glad to have new people join the group.

Go to Alicia's Attic on line and they have a few free videos you can watch on binding odd angles - Marci Baker is the demonstrator, I think. Paste this address in your browser, as I am unsure how to provide the link on this page. There is one specifically on the shape you want, and it is on You Tube as well.
http://www.online-quilting.com/video...ree/index.html P.S. I have just noticed that the post above mine is the same video - with the You Tube link. It is an excellent tutorial. |
Youtube video is very good and will show you how to do hexagon binding. You should post a pic when it's done. I find the finished projects on here so inspiring...

We made those in our little group and just did it exactly like a regular quilt just the corners came a little bit quicker.
|
Welcome to the board! Used to live in Indiana and now live back at home in Texas where it's warmer! I have no clue how to help you but there are some really talented people on here who can help. Good luck!

Welcome from Indiana to another Hoosier. There are quite a few of us in here!
|
I think the easiest thing to do is make an backing and turn it rightside out and stitch around the edges.

Welcome from Southern Indiana.

Welcome to the board from Murrells Inlet, SC. Never have done a hexagon shape, but seems it wouldn't be much different than square corners that are done with mitered corners. Have fun.

I just saw this over the weekend... it is a very good tutorial.

Welcome Jackie from Indiana, you will love this board the people are so helpful and nice. Sandy from Tasmania Australia |
Go to Jinny Beyer's web site: www.jinnybeyer.com/jgoctdil. She has on line videos about bindings. Her method of bringing the binding to the front does not appeal to me, but the videos about mitering binding on odd corners is very good.
