Sue, you can figure this out. Decide how big you want your quilt to be. Then decide whether you are going to make 12" or 18" blocks. Figure out how many blocks you need for the size you want.

Depending on the final block size, you cut your strip sets into squares of 9.5 or 14 inches. Divide the length of your fabric (about 40-42 inches) by whichever number you pick. That will tell you how many blocks you can get from one strip set. Divide this into the total number of blocks you need. Now take that number, and that is the number of strip sets you need. AND the number of each strips you need, assuming they are all different.

I am so dense!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D

You will sew your strips of fabric to total either 9.5 or 14 inches. Then you will cut those long strips into squares, so you cut each width the exact same size as the length. Look at the photos.

The width is the top of the strip set to the bottom of the strip set. (the shorter length of the strip set)
The length is the left to right (the longer length of the strip set)

Is this what you are asking?
