I'm using fabric I bought 10yrs ago from HL (frm stash) and it washes well. So glad we just got Hobby Lobby
3 wks ago also here in SE Mo. |
I have used it and like other stores , they carry good quality, less, etc. I use their 40% coupons all the time. You can subscribe to Hobby Lobby and get coupons and sales that way.
I think their fabric is hands down MUCH better than what is found in another leading fabric /craft chain store
HAHAHA thank you :D You are the first person who has ever made a mention
of my avatar. One of the popular magazines (not sure which now) had this posted on facebook one day. I saved the image and use it to remind my hubs of that. LOL

And I, too, am happy that a new Hobby Lobby is opening soon a few miles closer to us than the others in OKC... |
I have used their fabrics and like them.
I have bought fabric from Hobby Lobby and I love it, good quality.
Never had a problem with there fabric.
Just be sure to check each fabric. they do have some nice ones. I believe that they buys some manufacturers close-out for at least part of what they carry.
Like others you will need to check out the various fabrics. I find that prices on batting, notions and especially the clearance fabric has good buys. The fabric varies a lot. Their Northcott fabric is nice.
I made my first visit to a Hobby Lobby this weekend during a getaway with DH. I bought a bolt of Kaufman Kona white 40% off and a couple of other pieces. DH found some guy things for his new garage/shop too. The store was immaculate. I didn't know what to expect but was pleased with the store and the quality of the quilting fabric.
It's definitely not the chain it used to be before their massive expansion push. The flannels are much thinner, the same fabrics are there forever and the sales are not nearly as good as they used to be. They have dropped many of the name brands they used to carry. Returns are a nightmare because the owner does not believe in computer registers so everything is done by hand. I used to love to shop there but noticed a big change 5 years ago. I tried the stores when they finally reached Cal. but was so disappointed that I no longer shop there even though we now have 2 stores within 10 miles. The fabric I purchased 5-10 years ago is still the best in my stash.

I love Hobby Lobby! :) Most of their fabric is very nice (better than Joann's, in my opinion). Every once in awhile I'll run across a bolt that's not quite up to par, but for the most part, I'm very pleased.
Ditto about using their 40% off coupons! I don't know if all HL's do it, but if you forget your paper coupon, you can pull it up on your phone, show it to them, and they'll take it too. They let you use 1 coupon per person, so DH and I always check out separately so we can use 2 coupons. :) We've got 3 HL stores within 15-25 minutes of our house, but I recently found out that they're putting in another store just a mile away! DH groaned, but he can't say much, because we're also getting a Bass Pro Shops and a Cabella's! :D I would love to have a fabric store closer to me...it just might cut down on my internet fabric addiction, er shopping habit.. Nice quilt, copycat! K |
It doesn't matter where you buy fabric, Jo ann's, Wal-Mart or elsewhere, it is where it is made that matters so checking each piece out is more important then where you buy it.
Ones I've brought are really good quality. Always have my HL coupon to use too.
Most of the fabric is good...but you do have a few so-so mixed in.
I love their fabric and their price!

We just got a Hobby Lobby here and I'm so excited!!! At last I have a place to get quilting supplies and they've got a really nice selection of fabric but I do want to ask everyone a question about their fabric. Have you used it? Does it seem to be good quality? Has it held up well in your quilts that have been washed several times? Thanks!!! :)
i love Hobby Lobby fabric at our store they have a great selection and when i go in there to look it doesnt seem to be such a Mad House like jo anns. ever since our Joanns turned into a suoper store the quality of some of there fabric and there friendly staff has gone down hill
I just found out we are going to get a Hobby Lobby. I have never seen one and never been in one.
I find both high and low quality fabrics at HL. So just look at them well and compare the weight and hand of the fabric. Overall the quality is not as good as the LQS but prices are lower too!
I have used Hobby Lobby fabric. Some of it is very nice. Just like everywhere else, you have to watch what you buy. Never had a problem with anything I have used from them.
 for HL fabric.
I find that HL fabric does seem more consistently to be nicer than JoAnn's or Hancocks, and their fabric dept staff seems much more friendly than JoAnn's (and quicker). On the negative, like the other 2 chains, their coupons are bogus cause it's only on regular priced stuff and most stuff is on sale, plus there doesn't seem to be much change of fabric. But more importantly for me, I will not again spend $$ there because of their stance on women's reproductive health issues--which I don't think any employer has the right to dictate--they don't with male health issues.
I like their fabric, just they don't carry a wide selection to me so that's the only issue I have with them, but the quality on the ones I have purchased doesn't seem bad
I always check their fabric when we go there. I have used it and it works just fine for me. Just as good or better than I get at Hancocks.
quiltingshorttimer, I'm quite the opposite, I shop there when I have to because of their Christian values. My husband even told me after he heard of their values that he doesn't care how much I spend there. But I don't shop there much unless I need something quick, as I don't really care for their fabrics.
Kim, I just love your avatar. The small one looks a lot like my Missy when she was a whole lot younger. She was a rescue. My son was told she was part Jack Russell and part Sheltie. He told me she looked like a small Collie when he brought her home. Cute dogs you have.

I asked a clerk in HL fabric department and she told me that much of their fabric is their own line. I found it to be just fine in most cases to make charity quilts. I use LQS fabric only in my heirloom quilts.
I adore Hobby Lobby for the very fact that it is the ONE store that I can go in with Hubs and not have to hear " are you almost done?" 500 times, because the second we go in he is off to look at other crafty / leather working / wood working things and it is usually ME that has to go looking for HIM !
I just wanted to say one thing about fabric. Just because their is the name Quilt Shop on a building does not mean that their fabric is top quality. For a while I worked selling fabric in a retail store. We had a local LQS owner come in and buy a few bolts of our fabric that was on sale and resell it in her shop. I have had good experience with fabric at Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, Hancocks, some at WalMart and also at the LQS and also some on line. I think you have to check out the fabric department and decide for yourself. I don't buy much on line because I like to see and feel the fabric quality. Good luck and congratulations on your new place to shop.
I won't shop at Hobby Lobby for certain reasons. I'll just stick with my fabric shop on Grand Avenue and JoAnn's and Hancocks!
I have gotten some lovely fabrics at a shop near us where they recycle everything, put it in a bin and sell it, from beads to empty CD holders to plastic pill containers to fabric. They sell their fabric (I only buy cotton) for $5.00 for a grocery bag full. I made a whole quilt out of a bag of fabric from there and it was one of my best. It is a wonderful little store. They have classes, kids love the place - take my grandkids there all the time when they are in town. Not Hobby Lobby though. Sunny day today. Good day to pick up leaves and branches and tie up plants that the wind and rain have knocked over. I had it looking so nice yesterday and then BOOM! more rain and wind. But it smells so good outside this mornng! Edie |
Our Hobby Lobby carries all the Kona Fabric & it's good. Lots of there fabrics are fine to use & wash well. Just be careful, if it feels wrong don't buy it.

WE have a HL and their fabric is some OK, some not so good. *** *** If you have a coupon and your item is on sale, you can ask them to write up at REGULAR price so that you can use the coupopn and (sometimes that is a better value). *** JoAnn's -or- Hancock's will not do this. *** |

I like using the coupon on fabric at Hobby Lobby. Have fun fabric shopping! |
I have used Hobby Lobby fabrics for years and have always been very happy with it.
Have never had a problem with their fabric. I use it mainly to make DH shirts and they get washed and ironed a lot. No problems.
I like to buy the 108" white backing fabric from them. Have bought some holiday pieces, too.
I do think that HL fabric is of better quality than Walmart. That said, I have a problem with their Supreme Court Case and I don't know how much longer I will shop there.
I buy almost all of my fabric at Hobby Lobby and have had no problems.
