Hobby Lobby

I noticed today that a Hobby Lobby is coming to North Port, Fl. Has anyone got any comments about them like what they have and how they compare to Joanne's Fabric? Thanks for your comments. Sue

When I started going to Hobby Lobby, I was in heaven. They had so many coupons, discounts and %off, that almost every thing was marked down at the check out. Their product is the same, but the discounts are a lot less. Must be the
times we are having, I still go, and hope they stay in open here, as other stores had to cut back too. I`d bet when the
store opens it`s door there will be lots of good deals, start making a list now!

They don't carry nearly as much fabric as JoAnn Fabrics. But, they have some very nice Hobby Lobby Exclusive fabric that they don't sell in other places. Lots of Seasonal decorating items. Lots of scrapbooking stuff. Beautiful Yarns. Lots of DMC. It's a very nice store. I hope you like it as well.

I have a Hobby Lobby here. They carry a few of the same fabrics as Jo'anns. Mostly its a bit higher quality. I have found some very nice fabrics at Hobby Lobby. Look for their sales on Quilting fabrics . They have 30 percent off quite frequently. Mine does not have the amount of quilting fabric as most Jo'anns. But I always seem to leave with a chunk or two .

qbquilts 04-27-2012 03:45 PM

I like their fabric better than Joann's. It's often on sale (30% off), but there's usually a coupon (40% off any one item) and you can show it to the employee writing up your order so that the reg. price is recorded instead of the sale price so you can use the coupon. Go to HobbyLobby.com and click on the "in store specials" link to get it. Usually the coupon is 40% off any one item, but sometimes it rotates with 40% off a specific brand or type of item.

As the others said, they don't have nearly the quantity of fabric as Joann's. However, I think what they have is better - both in the quality of the fabric and in the colors/prints they offer.

We have several Hobby Lobby stores, within driving distance. Some are better stocked, than others. They generally have a good fabric selection and almost always have something on sale.

If you have a smart phone, you can get the current coupon and just show it to the cashier. Through your search engine (mine is Safari), go to mobile.hobbylobby.com. I just keep the site on my phone; it automatically updates, each week.

There's a Hobby Lobby in Fort Myers that is very nice. The gentleman in the fabric department is very helpful.

We have Hobby Lobby in Daytona Beach and I shop at one in Salisbury, MD when we're north. The fabric is better than a lot that JoAnn's carries although the selections are limited. The stores are amazing - fabric, crafts, home decor. Take time to look up and down every aisle. I guess it's more modern and not the cutsie craftsy stuff that JoAnn's has, not so much country stuff.

Pat625 04-27-2012 04:04 PM

I found the Hobby Lobby is way overpriced and the sales aren't as good as Joannes. More crafts than fabrics and a lot of things I really find Tacky...like a dollar store Pier One

Stitchnripper 04-27-2012 04:30 PM

I enjoy my Hobby Lobby. We just got a JoAnn's which I like too, but find I still go to Hancocks, Hobby Lobby and JoAnns. they each have something to offer. Hobby Lobby fabric has performed well for me.

dsmith 04-27-2012 04:41 PM

I shop at Hobby Lobby a lot. I got one of their credit cards I use only there. You get 5 pts for every dollar you spends and then they send you $25 gift cards. I get most of my quilting mags there using a 40% off coupon

Sandynorm 04-27-2012 04:45 PM

I actually found a coordinating fabric to a preprinted baby block my friend purchased from the LQS.

Dolphyngyrl 04-27-2012 05:14 PM

They opened up one where I used to live just before I moved. I only went to it once it seemed like it had alot of stuff but was more like a micheals with fabric added, definitely not as much fabric as joanns. Can't say much cause I've only been once

LynnVT 04-27-2012 05:21 PM

I've been in Hobby Lobby visiting my dd in Kansas, but just checked to discover there is one 65 miles from me in New Hampshire. That seems to be the only one in New England, and it was a surprise to know it's there. Also, we went there for scrapbooking stuff in KS; didn't even know they had fabric.

sandy l 04-28-2012 03:33 AM

When Hobby Lobby opened in Ft.Wayne,In, 12 yrs. ago, they had a large fabric dept., but over the years, they have been gradually downsizeing it. Haven't shopped there in a while, as it seems I can't find what I need when I do go in there.

ArtsyOne 04-28-2012 04:53 AM

My nearest Hobby Lobby is a worthwhile 3-hour drive. If you're looking for decorator fabrics, they have a lovely collection. A smaller collection of nice quilting fabrics. But the main reason I go is that their prices for framing can't be beat. With one of their coupons I can get custom matting and framing done for about half the price of Michaels or Joanns.

joyce888 04-28-2012 05:51 AM

I think the fabric is wonderful and good quality. They have gone up in price but it almost always is 30% off. Not as much of a selection as a LGS or JoAnns is the only negative.

coopah 04-28-2012 05:59 AM

Love Hobby Lobby. We have a 40% off coupon in the Sunday paper and if not, then go to the HL.com as others said. The fabric is almost always 30% off and they won't switch that for the 40% coupon. Too close to the profit margin, I imagine. It's a good place to go to get "psyched" for the next season or holiday.

Daylesewblessed 04-28-2012 06:03 AM

I have shopped Hobby Lobby for about 15 years. They have downscaled their selection of fabric during this time. Several years ago they had a markdown shelf that was phenomenal. Nice fabrics would commonly be $2/yard and sometimes even $1/yard. That practice has been discontinued. I still like their store. Even though the selection isn't very large, I think their buyer does a good job of finding appealing fabrics.

Our Hobby Lobby is nice, not as much fabric as Joanns.

Tink's Mom 04-28-2012 06:16 AM

I find a bit better grade of fabric at Hobby Lobby than at JoAnn's...Some of the fabric is the same as my local quilt shop.
The coupon runs everyother week in my Sunday paper... love the Kona cotton they have.
Also, good price on sale on batting.

Gladys 04-28-2012 08:00 AM

I love Hobby Lobby.

Alice Woodhull 04-29-2012 03:20 AM

I like the fact that they have Christian Ideals in their c orporate offices and are closed on Sunday. Theylet their workers worship if they so please. We need more of these stores in the country nowadays.

Phannie1 04-29-2012 03:38 AM

I do not have a local Hobby Lobby. But When I get up to Chattanooga, TN where my son lives, They do. I enjoy going there because it is different compared to Joann's. I like the fabrics, the endless isles of stuff... and the Holiday items.

I think I need a trip.....

piepatch 04-29-2012 03:57 AM

I like the quilting fabrics I get at Hobby Lobby, and generally speaking, I think they are of better quality than JoAnn's. They are always marked 30% off, but they will allow you to use your 40% off coupon on them, even though they are on sale. I don't think JoAnn's or Hancocks will let you use a coupon on a sale item. I shop Hobby Lobby for things other than fabric, and am more than satisfied with the quality and price.

Minding My Ps and Qs 04-29-2012 04:03 AM

There is a Hobby Lobby in Fort Myers, about 1 mile west of Exit 136 on I-75. For specific directions, PM me and you could look at the one here with a fairly easy trip of about an hour or so.

I've shopped at Hobby Lobby for years. Our closest one is about 30 miles away but I do get over there every now and then. Be sure to sign up for their coupons. Love all the variety they carry. I like their fabric dept very much.

Amythyst02 04-29-2012 04:20 AM

I am totally intrigued with HL. First off, our store is pretty large. I have been in there after a few holidays and the sales are fantastic. I have purchased fabric in there and been very happy with it. What I want to do, is take a trip to HL and spend an afternoon just walking up and down the aisles. There is so much there to see, and when I take hubby he is always in such a hurry. My daughter says there is another one, that is even bigger, up closer to where she lives and we are planning a HL afternoon, just the two of us!!

Fabaddict 04-29-2012 04:43 AM

I believe Hobby Lobby will accept competitors coupons - I know Joanns, Hancock and Michaels do

Yooper32 04-29-2012 05:02 AM

Consider yourself very fortunate to be getting a Hobby Lobby. The diversity of merchandise is fabulous, the fabric is mostly very good quality and the seasonal and home-dec items are many and diverse for all likes. There is not much in the line of crafts that you can't find there. I used to drive 80 miles to go to one in CO. Now, here in WV, none. AC Moore is here but can't compare.

Rose L 04-29-2012 05:05 AM

I love Hobby Lobby! I have purchased fabric there and have always found it to be of good quality and reasonable price. But that is not the reason I love that store so much. It's everything else that they sell that keeps me going back! Crafts, beautiful decor items, silk florals, wedding necessities, art and framing services, holiday decorating, beads, paints, wood working, scrapbooking, well, you name it they've usually got it. You are going to love your new store!!!

Latrinka 04-29-2012 05:06 AM

Not as much fabric as Joanns, but a whole lot of other crafting stuff! I love Hobby Lobby!

TanyaL 04-29-2012 05:07 AM

Hobby Lobby is wonderful for all kinds of things that I occasionally need plus their fabric. I love their silk flowers!

BeverlyH 04-29-2012 05:09 AM

Hobby Lobby started in Oklahoma City, OK back in the 1980's. They have always had high standards and good quality items. I think their fabric is a notch above most of the other stores.

Sewfine 04-29-2012 05:12 AM

I use Hobby Lobby quite frequently. They have sales every week. Most of there fabric is 30% off. But you can use there 40% off coupon that comes out weekly. The one here used to have a 70% - 80% off during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. But this pass holiday, they did not offer this great saving. They have savings on ribbons, tuille (check the spelling) and home decor fabric also. They do have an art section, scrapbook, floral arrangements and whatnots also. I love mines. I'm in there everyday that they are open, wherever I buy something or not browsing to see what's new. They even know me by name. They used to call me Martha Stewart Jr, I had to tell them my name.

annthreecats 04-29-2012 05:13 AM

We got our Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago. It has a lot of decorating stuff in it. They carry a few patterns and some notions. The fabric section is small but filled with great quilting cotton. I also enjoy their bead and yarn sections. You can print coupons from their website which I think are good for the week.

winia 04-29-2012 05:17 AM

I went to a Hobby Lobby once. I was not impressed at all with their fabric department.

Eileen De Ville 04-29-2012 07:59 AM

We have a great Hobby Lobby in my area. I shop there at least three times a month for fabric and other items. There prices seem quite reasonable, and with the discounts, even better. I don't have a smart phone, but many of my friends do, so I will pass the word. I don't always find the fabric I am looking for, but I do find a selection to us on future projects. More stash, just what we all need. GiGi

Being a snowbird, I spend the winters near Lk Havasu City, Az. & was thrilled to find a new Hobby Lobby there last season. I love their fabrics & it gave us more choices than Wal Mart & 2 very pricey LQSs.

Here in Wash. state, I thought I saw a Hobby Lobby in Tacoma while lost in a detour last summer. I Googled to find the exact address but it showed none. I did a "contact us" & got a reply that said HL is looking for a location for a store in Tacoma & plans to open 30 stores in various locations in the near future. I think that's great news.

glenda5253 04-29-2012 09:51 AM

Hobby Lobby has some pretty nice fabric - just not as much as a JoAnn's. I get their ad in my inbox every week and they always have a 40% off coupon that you can run off. Even if a particular fabric is on sale that week for 30% off, you can use your 40% coupon and you can use one coupon a day.
