I live in a fairly large town in Southern California (100,000+) and have only a very large Joann. Our Walmart just got fabric back into the store, but is limited, but better than nothing. Just heard the other day, while shopping at Joann, that Hobby Lobby was opening in my town....I have never been in one, or shopped in one. Can you tell me what to expect....
They have more crafts than fabric but they usually have a nice selection...I truly love hobby lobby because they do a 40% off cupon every other week on one item I have used it to buy all kinds of large items....
I love Hobby Lobby! But, as said before, they don't have as much fabric as Joann's. They have really great decorator items and craft items, though. Even my husband likes to go-can't say the same for Joann's. And the coupon is terrific!!

Hobby Lobby has a smaller slection but a good one. Great coupons. I like it better that Joann's.
Hobby Lobby has everything.
Hobby Lobby is great for "all around" home decor shopping. Plus, depending on the size of the store they have a great needlecraft and fabric section.
OMG!!!! I have been to Hobby Lobby in Colorado and Florida. Love Hobby Lobby, not so much for fabric, as they are ok, not really Quilt shop quality, but their crafts and decorations are fabulous!!! They are kept so much neater and tidier than Michaels or Joanns. I live in No County San Diego....where are you exactly??
I am expecting this to be a fairly large store as they are taking over a good size Mervyns empty store. I feel very blessed that I will now have choices, Walmart, Michaels, Joann and now Hobby Lobby..... Competion is always a good thing, the Joann in my city is the second largest in the nation, and has not always been managed or run well.
I buy from both but I think that HL has better quality in their own brand for around 3.99-4.99 that is with their 30% off every day on fabrics. With all the other stuff you could spend quite a bit there

I think Hobby Lobby is more like Michaels but better. I like the fabric better than Joanns too.
Don't have a Joanns here but I do love Hobby Lobby for more than just fabric.
Hobby Lobby also runs 30% off sales on fabric quite often here in my area.

Hobby Lobby is a great home dec store and they have tons of craft supplies. Their fabric is a NICE selection, and they keep their fabric STOCKED. Usually, if I bought a yard or two of a particular "calico," I can rely on being to go back and get another yard. Of course, that doesn't apply to their seasonal selections, but I think they do a good job.

Is Temecula the only one opening in S.CA?
You will love Hobby Lobby. They have some really good sales. I always use the 40% off coupon to buy my Warm and Natural batting.
The fabric selection is not as large as JoAnn's but they carry some respectable fabric ( VIP, Some P&B). I can typically find a better quality of fabric at Hobby Lobby than JoAnn's line of Keepsake.
Who hoo! I'm in Vista, will come up to Temecula and check out the Hobby Lobby! Had those in Texas where I am originally from and haven't been to one in a million years.
HI THERE KAREN!!!!! Guess who.... |

To warn you Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays. I love the store. The people are always friendly. I don't shop at Joann's it is a hour drive. When I get there I have to pull my number then. Still wait about one and a half hours to get fabric cut (it could be just that store). Never ever have had to wait like at Hobby Lobby.
Would love to have a Hobby Land, if for no other reason than to have a choice. Right now we only have JoAnns and a rather crappy one at that. Colonia, NJ seems to be the worst one ever. The ones in CT are lovely.
You are very blessed to be getting a Hobby Lobby. They have awesome merchandise including fabric. They are a great company that gives their employees Sunday off! I totally support them.
People keep mentioning the Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon. Jo Ann's also has coupons. I usually go with coupons from three sources: newspaper, mailings and on-line. Sometimes they are not 40%, but 50 or 60%.

Our HL is fairly new and I just love it. It does have more craft then fabric but will say the quality of fabric beats what Joann has and price are reasonable and can be an additional 30% off.
You can sign up on line to get coupons to use at Hobby Lobby. Our local newspapers also have ads (and coupons) that are pretty comprehensive as to what they offer for sale.
Hobby Lobby, at least in my area, doesn't have the variety that Joanns has. For instance no batiks. Shop both and you'll be fine. You could use a Joanns coupon and a Hobby Lobby coupoun all in the same day!
I loved my Hobby Lobby in GA. I have a Joann's here and really wasn't all that impressed. Talked to a manager yesterday at Walmart and she said they were getting fabric back in January. But when I was checking out I talked to the woman running the register and she said they had just laid off 50% of their people. Went from 600 employees to 300. That's just insane.
i have both a joanns and a hobby lobby...i use them both depending on what is on sale, and who has a better coupon for the week...
My hubby says when he walks into Jo-Ann's with me that he feels "like his brain is being sucked out." LOLLLLLL Cracks me up.
I LOVE Hobby Lobby!
If that was our Walmart in Rochester, NY letting go 300 people, I'd sure understand it. They could care less about the customer. Have a close friend who is the greeter and she said the young people coming in are rude, foul-mouthed and could care less if they work or not. She is 65 and of the "old school of work ethics." She only works there because she has to but people who come in the door love her.
My husband and I are visiting our daughter in Georgia for the month and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! The Walmart people here are SO much more friendly and actually help you when you need it, no matter what they are doing at the time. This Northerner sure appreciates Southern hospitality!!

We have a super sized JoAnnes within 30 minutes and they carry alot more fabrics than Hobby Lobby. As said by others Hobby is more decorating items than fabrics.
You'll love Hobby Lobby. We have one in a nearby town, about a 30 minute drive from my home. I go there often. They have nice fabrics, and the ladies who cut the fabric in our store are super nice. They also have a great assortment of lace and ribbons if you also enjoy making craft items as I do. Just about anything you'd need.
I never shop at JoAnn's since we got a Hobby Lobby.
I love their selection of fabrics and use their coupon each week they come out. |
