Hooray for Hobby Lobby!

I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday to look for some little things to put into my Secret Santa box for my Secret Santa partner. Found a gorgeous Christmas ornament that is right at the top of her wish list!

While I was there I looked at the fabrics department. WOW! They have some gorgeous fabric....very good quality and the prices can't be beat! I think I may do my shopping there from now on and use JoAnn's coupons for batting and extra wide backing, supplies, thread etc. I was so impressed!

I keep forgetting about HOBBY LOBBY! They have great deals. And so very true. I got some black on white and vice versa for very good prices. And they try very hard to make sure everything is put back in it's place. I've seen the mgr. of the whole store help restock if the employees are overwhelmed.

dunster 10-04-2013 08:28 AM

I have never been to a Hobby Lobby, but they are planning to open their first store in Oregon here in Albany early next year. I'm looking forward to it.

MaryMo 10-04-2013 08:39 AM

I enjoy Hobby Lobby. Their clearance fabrics are often a real bargain and they often have seasonal fabric at 30% off ..... then there's always their weekly 40% discount on one regular priced item - when I remember to take the coupon with me. Wish I was technologically talented when I see some people show the coupon on their cell phones.

jrhboxers 10-04-2013 09:13 AM

I love their fabrics. Like Connecting Threads, they have fabrics made just for them. Great hand and softness. AND the prices are wonderful. And what is not produced for them are all high quality. Such a great place.

erstan947 10-04-2013 09:41 AM

I have loved them from the "in the beginning years" in Oklahoma City. They have always been my go to place for sewing and craft supplies. They are the best!

Jingle 10-04-2013 10:30 AM

All their fabrics are 30% off. If you tell the Lady cutting fabric you want the regular price, you will be able to use the 40% off coupon. I have bought lots of fabrics there. Very good quality.

Oh, I didn't know that. I rarely get to use my coupon since it doesn't apply to sale items. Thanks for the heads-up
BTW, the coupon is issued weekly, but can be used every day if you go that often.

I live in a tiny town. Monday was my son's 36th birthday and he lives in a big city. I spent the day with him and we did what he wanted. We drove by a Hobby Lobby. First one I ever saw. I so wanted to stop there, but it was his day, so I couldn't do it to him. Next time I go visit him, I'll go there before I go to his home. I need to find out if they have a JoAnn's in that city. They probably do. I haven't been in one of those for over 20 years.

I love Hobby Lobby. I am pretty sure you can ask the checkout clerk to ring up anything on sale in the store at regular price and then apply your 40% coupon. But, Jingle is right, for fabric you ask the person cutting your fabric to mark it at regular price so when you reach the checkout you can use your coupon.

DH usually accompanies me to Hobby Lobby. He finds lots of items which he can utilize for his woodworking craft. Nothing like shopping with your best buddy! :):)

I've done that at Hobby Lobby, also. Can't get by with it at JoAnn's

noahscats7 10-04-2013 01:38 PM

Hobby Lobby does not accept coupons from their competitors. My only complaint.

mckwilter 10-04-2013 02:03 PM

For those who don't know, there is a Hobby Lobby app for iPhone. You just show them the coupon and they take the 40% off the highest priced non-sale item. And you can use it every day. It automatically updates each Monday and is good through Saturday.

The Hobby Lobby in my city will not take any competitor coupons so you might want to check if yours does.

Daylesewblessed 10-04-2013 04:51 PM

I like the fabrics at Hobby Lobby too, and the staff is friendly and helpful. However, the lack of any kind of automated check out system is an aggravation. They have no way to look up a price, there are occasional errors in entering the price on the cash register by hand or remembering something is on sale, and the lines can be horrid.

mighty 10-04-2013 05:04 PM

I have not been in Hobby Lobby for a while, might just have to make a trip there tomorrow!

DonnaPBradshaw 10-04-2013 05:33 PM

I really like Hobby Lobby also! After reading all the posts I will start shopping there for fabric!

Tiggersmom 10-04-2013 05:51 PM

I love Hobby Lobby. I will shop there not just because it is closer but you get real assistance compared to our local JoAnns. They have helpers that don't know how to sew working in the sewing department as I've been told by friends who shop there on a regular basis.

BETTY62 10-04-2013 06:58 PM

I love Hobby Lobby. Their selection is awesome, their prices are great and the staff always has a smile on their faces. Plus, they are closed on Sunday so the staff can attend church and enjoy a day with family.

NanaCsews2 10-04-2013 07:05 PM

Don't forget the quilting magazines can be purchased with those 40% off coupons too!!

sewbizgirl 10-04-2013 07:12 PM

It isn't true that ALL their fabrics are 30 percent off. The quilting cottons are, but they carry a lot of other fabric too. I bought some flannel yardage that wasn't discounted at all.

Woodster 10-05-2013 02:57 AM

I keep writing to them and ask them to open a store in the Raleigh area. Our closest one is about 50 miles. Online shopping maybe? I'm more of a touchy-feely kind of girl, though. Road trip??

twinkie 10-05-2013 03:08 AM

I have never purchased a bad piece of fabric at Hobby Lobby and I greatly respect the fact that they are true to their beliefs. I love going there.

annievee 10-05-2013 03:30 AM

Hobby Lobby is one of my favorites, our store was recently moved to another location and now it is even better !

carolaug 10-05-2013 03:51 AM

Thank-you...I just downloaded the app.

I love Hobby Lobby also and buy a lot of fabric there and have been pleased with it.

Yooper32 10-05-2013 04:43 AM

I miss Hobby Lobby a whole bunch since I left CO. No HL's here in WV, at least, not that I have heard of. I had to drive 80 miles to get to the one in Grand Jct., but it was worth it and my son and DIL lived there, so it was a great trip. I would spend hours at Hobby Lobby.

That doesn't work at all the stores. Ours doesn't allow that. I tried that and they said, "No, sorry." I just go with the flow. They have some very nice Christmas fabric in now. I wanted a Christmas fabric panel, but it was sold out. I kept going back and finally, they took my name and told me I could have the finished sample if they didn't get any more of that fabric. So! The finished panel is now mine and I bought it finished for way, way less than the materials would have cost. HL is my first go to for fabric. Plus I'm near there about once a week. :-) Happy dance for me!

And our Joanne's doesn't discount magazines anymore with the coupon.

That doesn't always happen! It depends on the store. There are three of them in my area, and only one store will give you the regular price in order to get the 40% discount. Also, I'm thinking they won't take other stores' coupons.

Amythyst02 10-05-2013 05:34 AM

I enjoy going there and the fabric is great. The one thing I wanted to do was take the time to walk thru the entire store!! There is so much to see. So my daughter and I made a day of it, and enjoyed ourselves very much. Very interesting store. The only thing I do not care for is the notions section is not as huge as most. But other than that everything is fantastic.

I drive 100 miles to shop at Hobby Lobby in Grand Jct. I love it and have always found good fabric there for a reasonable price. :o

Did you know that picture frames was how they got started in their garage - making picture frames?

GypsyRse1 10-05-2013 05:54 AM

Glad to hear about the Albany Oregon Hobby Lobby..... I can't wait.

misschris 10-05-2013 06:14 AM

I LOVE Hobby Lobby also as it is my only option for fabric in my city. The nearest fabric store is 30 miles away. When I buy a larger piece the girls that cut always ask me if I would rather have my fabric listed as full price so I can use my 40% to save a little more money. Their staff is always so kind and personable. If I have to have only one option in my city, and don't feel like traveling far, I'm glad it's Hobby Lobby.

danlynmartin 10-05-2013 06:40 AM

They used to let you ask for regular price and then you could use the coupon but last winter that went by the wayside and you cannot do that anymore. This is the rule in the 2 stores in McAllen TX and in Harlingen so it sounds like it might be a rule from head office. But then their fabric is already always discounted and it really is great value.

Our local HL fabric dept will not do this for us. I'll try asking again, but it's always "can't do that" fabric is 30% off.

bjsmith57 10-05-2013 06:41 AM

I love Hobby Lobby also

janjj 10-05-2013 06:53 AM

I like Hobby Lobby. This is the only place I could find the Hairpin Lace loom. Good price on it also. I travel and that is something you can do while riding in a car or bus or watching TV. mulit-tasking.

Ditto for me. And I love the music they play!

ScrappyAZ 10-05-2013 06:55 AM

I would love to be able to shop at Hobby Lobby more often, but I work during the week, which leaves only weekends for shopping. Since they are closed on Sundays, I'm limited to shopping at stores that are open on Saturdays and Sundays.

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 05:36 PM.
