the hottest NEW quilting gadget!

1 Attachment(s)
isn't found in too many quilt shops YET!

It is the Scrap-ma-bob, designed for scrapbookers, but rapidly being taken over by quilter's! WHEN you can find one!
I saw it at the quilt retreat this weekend, and the quilt shop had one on display and said they are taking orders because the manufacturer is so overwhelmed, they are back ordered for months now! go figure!

I ordered one and when it gets here I am going to "quiltify" it up a bit!

That is interesting. Is the one a cup holder, would you put your threads and or paper in the cup instead of the bag? Good idea, thanks for the tip.

gingerd 04-30-2012 05:50 PM

These are great! I have two here at home and one at work. It makes drinks safe and trash easy to toss away. Check a scrapbook store to see if they have them. Oh, and when you look at them make sure they will hold the size cup you use.

I bought mine years ago and it came with a large mug. Since then some are made with smaller cup holders. For the bag I just use shopping bags. When the bag is full I just toss it and put another onto the holder.

jaciqltznok 04-30-2012 06:02 PM

this one holds a 32oz mug! I have a smaller one on the ironing board, holds my spray bottle and threads that get snipped!

But I want this BIG one for retreats and classes....wait til you see what I am going to do to make it more quilter friendly!

Can't wait to see what you have in mind.

snipforfun 04-30-2012 06:07 PM

Ive had one for around 10 years from a scrapbooking store

sewgull 04-30-2012 06:10 PM

Love exciting new ideas for sewing and quilting.

DonnaR 04-30-2012 06:15 PM

I got my first one at scrapbooking4less.com. The second on which I keep with my travel machine I got at a quilt shop which started carrying them after they saw ours at a retreat.

granny216 05-01-2012 02:23 AM

Sounds like a great idea..I have one of those pincushion/pocket things but I like the cup idea.

grammy.mj 05-01-2012 03:06 AM

I have one too and love it.

BellaBoo 05-01-2012 04:19 AM

I saw something similar at Walmart when the school supplies were out last year. A cup holder for a desk with battery light attached instead of the bag. I thought it was a great space saving idea for a desk.

cny_sewer39 05-01-2012 04:24 AM

I haven't seen them before. I just LOVE quilting gadgets and gizzmos. lololo. I can't wait to see how you "quiltify" it. I will keep my eyes open. Thanks for the heads up.

I bought one about 10 years ago or so. It's black and clamps onto my sewing table...large enough for a big coffee mug as well. Got it from a scrapbooking shop. It's called a "Side Kick Drink Holder". Got it from Creative Memories...
www.creativememories.com

I have since bought 4 more and given to quilter friends....even got one for DH for his wood shop. Nice gifts!

pls1946 05-01-2012 04:37 AM

Very interesting!!

mighty 05-01-2012 06:43 AM

Looks really cool.

peaceandjoy 05-01-2012 06:59 AM

I've had the Side Kick from Creative Memories for years, but have only used it once. The problem is that many tables at retreats, sew-ins, etc. have a lip under the edge of the table and the clamp doesn't work on them.

AHA...this is an issue with those plastic tables for sure..so this weekend one of the ladies showed us what her DH did for her...he made a wood block that you put up to the underside of the table and then you just screw your holder down and the wood fills that gap! GREAT!

jcrow 05-01-2012 07:33 AM

I have one and put a tin where the cup holder is and put my scissors in it and put my thread clippings in the bag. It works great!

collady 05-01-2012 08:51 AM

I am going to find one as soon as ever possible! It sure would be great on my machine! Thanks for the share!

cloverbud 05-02-2012 03:47 AM

I have had mine for a couple of years - - love it!

sewmom 05-02-2012 04:00 AM

That looks like a really neat addition to a sewing room. I see one negative(for me anyway)-if i have an open cup, there's sure to be threads floating in it! I've poured hot milk into my cereal bowl instead of my mug b/c they were next to each other, so its bound to happen here too!

kpelletier83 05-02-2012 04:21 AM

I too have the "Side Kick Drink Holder"

I love my holder. Very sturdy too. Been using it for 7 or 8 years. Creative Memories is going to get an increase in sales. :-)

amandasgramma 05-02-2012 05:07 AM

oh, no -- nope, can't get that. You all may think the drink is safe, but I know me....I'd turn, run into it and have everything all over the fabric, machine and floor. LOL LOL

quiltinglady-1 05-02-2012 05:23 AM

Wow! I was just looking at Creative Memories for the mug holder-& I thought quilting was an expensive hobby!

hoppa 05-02-2012 05:27 AM

Will have to look around for this

Oh I like this idea. I don't usually keep a drink by my side when I am sewing for the same reason amadasgramma said but this idea would work for me. Thanks!

rjwilder 05-02-2012 06:04 AM

Amazon sells them for $20.00, but they are currently out of stock.

linda faye 05-02-2012 06:40 AM

I know I will love how you 'quiltify' this. :) I, too, would be putting threads in my cup/drink. I have a pin cushion which is weighted and has little velcro straps which connect to a thread catcher bag. The bag can be removed and be emptied. It is a quilted item and I love it. Bought it at Stitchers (local needlework shop).

redeagle 05-02-2012 06:45 AM

I keep a brown lunch bag taped to the edge of my sewing table for threads. Works fine.

solstice3 05-02-2012 07:05 AM

Creative Memories had something similar a good while back

Exactly! I have one of those magnifying lamps on a long positionable arm that clamps to tables. I went to the wood scraps out back and found a small block and used it under the table to stabilize the clamp - works great!!

way cool!! Let us know after you test it out

terry leffler 05-02-2012 08:36 AM

Anyone finds them, please let me know where!

Ditto! Although a quilted holder would look nicer. :)

Yosamitesa 05-02-2012 08:53 AM

OMG!!! Creative Memories sells one of those, or they used to when I sold it! :) I LOVE mine!!!

JanieH 05-02-2012 11:22 AM

Really looks nifty! Can't wait to see how you "quiltify" it!

LadyElisabeth 05-02-2012 11:27 AM

This is a new one for me, I've not seen or heard of it. Love this, now on my list of must have.

hobo2000 05-02-2012 11:36 AM

$24.95 seems a little pricey for something I can live without. 2 1/2 yards of fabric would be more fun JMHO

nstitches4u 05-02-2012 02:24 PM

Looks like a handy item!

Dordee 05-02-2012 04:15 PM

I bought one for my scrap-booking from Creative Memories-never thought about using it in the sewing room-Thanks
