House Cleaner?

DH has headed out to our place in Wyoming and will be gone for a month. So this week off I am going to pretend I have a house cleaner and just spend the next 7 days quilting!!!!! When I go back to work I will be mad cause the house cleaner never showed up and hope she shows up on my next 7 days off. I will put all the blame on her. That way I will not be mad at me. Here's to quilting, cookies and chocolate. With cookies and chocolate there will be no dishes to wash, so at least the kitchen will stay clean.

I love it when I get a vacation like that! My husband is very easy going but I still like it when I have the whole house to myself. Only problem is any more when others find out I'm going to be alone they think I need company and come over, invite me to dinner, ask me to babysit, etc. I'm not going to tell anyone again until AFTER he comes back!

PaperPrincess 05-09-2013 06:06 AM

Enjoy it, you are lucky. My husband would want me to come. He even wants me to go with him to get a haircut. He traveled a lot for work, so now that we are retired, he's making up for the time he was gone. I think I have less time to quilt now than when I worked!

Jingle 05-09-2013 06:58 AM

My Husband and I spend all put 12-14 hours a week together. We have been married 51 years. I can sew all I want with him there.

mustangquilts 05-09-2013 12:05 PM

Don't get me wrong. I love my DH of 31 years. I have to stay here and work while he is retired and building our new home in Wyoming. It is over 700 miles from where we live now so I can not go on my days off. He totally supports my quilting. It is just I am home alone and having some fun time doing what I want the most. That is to quilt. Believe me I miss him.

Stitchnripper 05-09-2013 12:56 PM

I have said that the reason I like some alone time is because I know Mr Stitchnripper will be back. Just a change of pace.

kaelynangelfoot 05-09-2013 01:04 PM

I love my DH too but its easier to concentrate with an empty house. I too value the rare days when I get the place to myself.

Mitch's mom 05-09-2013 01:13 PM

Call a cleaning service to come in for a day. Ask them to do a couple heavy jobs you don't like to do, or can't manage to do on your own, that way you will still be able to quilt AND you got a job or two done on the heavy cleaning list!

That's funny. I will have to remember that one. Don't feel so alone now. Unfortunately he even sneaks in when DH is here.

I never get mad at me for sewing instead of cleaning---------hubby is another story!

I do not envy you building a home 700 mi away. We did it 5 years ago but neither of us were retired. What a night mare!! Glad he is able to oversee the "project" himself. As for you .... well quilt on!! Can not wait to see what you accomplish!

quiltmom04 05-10-2013 04:25 AM

The ONE time a year the house gets a GOOD cleaning is before vacation because we have someone come to stay at the house to pet sit and I don't want her to be grossed out! Haha! Other than that, it's sort of a 'lick and a promise' as the saying goes!

Caswews 05-10-2013 04:35 AM

Ohhh enjoy !!!!! Love it when the DH takes off for a while and I have the whole place to myself and my dog !LOL No one to clean up after but ME and oh yeah my dog!! I can crochet, sew, quilt, watch tv and no interruptions (honey when will dinner be ready? what's for lunch ? etc....LOL). Ahhh yes the life ..

tessagin 05-10-2013 05:21 AM

I give my house a lick and a promise (to do better the next time?)(fingers crossed)!

lovecreating 05-10-2013 05:58 AM

I feel the same as many do here. I miss him when he is gone but I enjoy the time alone, less picking up, cooking, laundry etc. I can get so much more done by myself, but yes it can get lonely. Yes it is hard to got through the whole building phase. I hope you are getting a very special craft room in your new home. That's my dream, a special craft room, so I don't have to pack and unpack my stuff. Or having my dining area utilized by my stuff. I have a long table and at one end is my machine and pile up my tools and supplies at days end and we eat at the other end. Can't wait to have my own room. I know I would craft more if I didn't have to dig things out of my bedroom closet.

mustangquilts 05-10-2013 06:58 AM

Oh yes, it has a craft room. It is 16 x 28. DH already has his shop built. He knew better that to argue about my sewing room. Besides, as he says, If momma is happy, we all are happy! :0)

jeanharville 05-10-2013 08:11 AM

Mustangquilts, I certainly understand the joy of alone time and love having it myself.

solstice3 05-10-2013 10:21 AM

My DH went to our place in Montana about 3 weeks ago. I went through the house like a hurricane got all the stuff done that needed done and the last 3 weeks have been for quilting and other play... now it is time to run the vac and get the threads up.... and that will be all!

IBQUILTIN 05-10-2013 10:46 AM

My DH passed away last year in June, and I never realized how much quilting I was not getting done with all the special care. I can q" me for something else

We raise RT's and house is never clean as I would like, but I would have to spend all my time cleaning to do that, so I go with the lick and a promise thingy too. I spend 30-45 minutes a day cleaning something, most days and floors daily. Rather be sewing/quilting.

cowgirlquilter 05-10-2013 11:37 AM

In honor of your "vacation" I will eat some marvelous chocolate chip cookies......yum!

palmetto girl 05-10-2013 03:42 PM

mustangquilts, enjoy once you start moving your "me" time might be very little. Hope you get a lot of quilting done.

my-ty 05-10-2013 04:38 PM

Enjoy your Me time. For those of us that live in busy households or just two person households, there is nothing nicer than being "Home Alone". Don't waste this time by cleaning!

katesnanna 05-10-2013 05:01 PM

I am enjoying time alone at the moment. Usually when DH goes away he always comes back early, so this time he didn't give me an ETA. He does what I call a road trip each year which gives me a break. As a Vietnam vet he can be hard work at times as he has PTSD. I think the time away does us both good and reminds us how much we still mean to each other. We've been married 45 years this year.

VickieW 05-10-2013 06:01 PM

Where in Wyoming? I use to live in Wyoming. Wamsutter, Wyoming and went to school in Rawlins.

ging10ging 05-10-2013 06:10 PM

Sounds like fun I think sometimes you get more done when you are working and home alone. My DH and I are married 50 yrs this Dec. and I can sew when I want except I sometimes feel quilty leaving the housework when I know it's waiting for me. It is hard getting used to getting a new routine with DH home all the time but I like it. Enjoy your 7 days they'll go quick for sure. Sue

JenelTX 05-10-2013 07:05 PM

You're my hero!!!! Have a great week. Enjoy every minute of it.

Auntie Em 05-10-2013 08:11 PM

Just have a ball....sounds like so much FUN!!!

I enjoy my husband's company and also enjoy my own when he goes on golf trips or just spends half a day at the golf course, which he does frequently. Not sure we'd enjoy each other so much if it was a 24/7 arrangement, and he would really be unhappy if he couldn't get out to the golf course. He's a sweetie and a big help around here, but nothing inspires him to start a conversation better than the sight of me trying to read a book, and if I'm quilting he is sure to want me to come out and help him decide were to plant flowers. He plants them and cares what I think, so how could I possibly complain?! Then there is the problem of mealtimes being somewhat sacrosanct if he's here, whereas on my own I only eat when and what I feel like eating. He even cooks breakfast and makes sandwiches for lunch quite often, so of course I wouldn't complain, and if he cooks or brings home carry-out, you know I'm going to show up on time!

Isn't it lucky that we have a nice hobby to keep us from sitting around making unreasonable demands on our mates' time?

We bought 41 acres about 19 miles outside of Sundance. It is covered in Ponderosa Pines. Love it. Have to drive through three ranches to get to it. Very secluded and just what we love. We laugh cause if you pull our place up on a GPS our road is called Community Cow Pasture Road. We get lots of laughs with that. DH has no hobbies but loves to work outside. This will be perfect for when we totally retire next year. He has already started building magical places around the property for the GK's. A swing, play house, benches, a pond, and the list will go one. It is up to the GK's to find them. It has been lots of fun. The GK's love to go looking for them. Can't wait to finally get to live there year round.

I LOVE my husband. He is very helpful in picking fabric, giving opinions on what is and isn't acceptable, and fixing dinner. BUT alone is good too. Sometimes I just like knowing that I am not ignoring him or anything else when I am closed up in my sewing room. We are retired and I sometimes think - gee I wish he would go somewhere for a few days. I LOVE my husband, but there is a plus to solitude too.

MargeD 05-11-2013 08:30 AM

Lucky lady. It would be so nice to have a house cleaner, however, having the house to myself for 7 days would be fantastic. Enjoy the quilting, cookies and chocolate and when you go back to work - fire the house cleaner. LOL Enjoy your special time.

SS Muro 05-11-2013 09:24 AM

I understand your joy at having your home to yourself. My husband went to Italy for three months and I sewed and sewed to my hearts content and went to sleep when I wanted. No dishes to wash, ate from paper plates, no cooking, ordered out. We communicated on Skype every couple of days and we both had our own wonderful vacations.

your note rings bells here! My DH is quiet but also loves to talk when I have my nose in a book! By the by, your pic of the dog- how cute!

That is pretty country up around Sundance. You will love it. Folks are few and far between in that neck of the woods!

How wonderful is that! I do envy you, I always wanted to live in the country & have horses & a cow & pig for ..well you know. And to have room for GK to just run & have fun. Sounds like a lot of great memories are going to be made at G'ma & G'pa's house!
