birthing like when you sew a tote bag and then turn it right side out through a seam hole left unsewn. If you think about it, it is a good name for it.LOL I only heard it called that about 2 yrs ago on here. Having children of my own it seems to fit to me. If Nonnie60 places her Dresden face up on the table then places another piece of fabric face down on it then sews around the Dresden edge leaving a small opening in the seam to turn it right side out. that is birthing it. She will end up with it lined and not have to sew it on a block. That way the edge is pointy. Makes for a pretty table topper. Hope I made sense.

Birthing? Lol. It's called facing. Is your Dresden made of blades (pointy) or petals (rounded)? If you've turned under your segment ends already it will be pretty hard to face then unless you can iron them back out flat. Otherwise you'll have too much fabric in the seam.
