Make it about a foot taller than he is. He can snuggle with that for good while. When he is a really big boy, you could make another.

Or take the binding off and add onto. Mom used to do that for my niece and nephews because they always wanted to keep using the original just needed it bigger. It made for some pretty interesting quilts since the center was for a small child, then an adolescent, then a teen, and finally for an adult. Their quilts showed off their changing tastes and made for some pretty good laughs. The "next" size might have totally different blocks, colors and prints.

The ones I'm making for friends and family kiddos are approximately the same size as crib batting...45 x 60 or thereabouts...uses only one width of fabric for backing and is great for snuggling on the couch, in the car or for a sleepover. Might be too small for the tent making though...hadn't thought of that.

Cool, thank you so much everyone, for all the measurements and your experiences with quilts for small people... this gives me a good basis to chat with my sis about what size to make! :-D :-D This board is just wonderful.

Definitely I'll be posting pictures once there's something to see. :-)

My DGD has twin size quilts and she takes them everywhere with no problems. It seems to be a good size for her anyway.
