The fabrics are pretty. If I could not think of anything to do with them as they are - I would unsew the black strips while watching TV and do something else with the pieces.

I am surprised that there are so many replies. Just checked back and you have given so many ideas. Thanks for the links too. The colored pieces are rectangles, 5"X 10" without the black sash piece. I think they are what is called charm squares, cut in half. I was thinking Illusion but the black strip goes the length of the colored rectangle with no white square to create the illusion. I don't know if I want to unsew all those black strips. I will mull over all the ideas given and see what I can come up with.
Big THANK YOU to everyone that took the time to respond. |
The fabric is lovely, it looks earthy to me. You can always make a scrap quilt but I also agree with Tartan, it truly would make a great Shadow Box top. Let us know what you decide to do with it.

What if you sewed four of them together with the black strips toward the center so that the black pieces form a kind of (almost plus-shaped) pinwheel? Then trimmed it square. As rectangular as those are, I'm wondering, do they turn into 2 squares if you cut them in half? If so, you may want to cut them in half and get twice as many "pinwheel" blocks. I love the colors of the fabric and really like the black with them. I see a beautiful quilt in the making. Please let us know what you end up doing with them.

The strip on the side looks like it's cut at 2". I'd trim the length to 8 1/2", then add another 2 X 8 1/2 strip on the opposite side. Leave the other sides as they are. Now you have a 8 1/2" square block. Lay them out by turning each block as you build your rows and columns. It makes a lovely woven pattern that looks harder than it is. I took a picture with my camera and sent it to my email, but it hasn't shown up. It looks somewhat like Barnbum's Brick Trails.

Okay, the pic showed up in email, blurry, but clear enough that you can get the idea. Now let's see if I can get it here. The quilt is attached to a machine being FMQed so this is only a corner.
That's weird - very small and not where I wanted it, but you can see the pattern of the quilt. First time using the phone to send a picture. I'll figure it out later. Edit: Now it's huge. |
