It is basically done as a six point star or tumbling block. Look in quilters cache for patterns like this and you should find instructions.

Y seams aren't so bad if you are good about marking where you start and stop. I draw the 1/4 inch stiitching line on all sides of the block and where they intersect is my start/stop point. I also make sure to backstitch or knot on Y seams.
If someone knows a better way please save me from myself. I hate the seam ripper... |
If you subscribe to The Quilt Show, the latest episode with Laura Nownes demonstrates this exact piecing technique. Basically you sew to within but NEVER past 1/4 inch of where two pieces meet. I am sure there are tutorials on YouTube for sewing Y-seams. It is not difficult but you do have to be precise!
Just found this on YouTube and it is different from the way I was taught but looks even easier! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLkHfcuNzCA |
There are atleast 3 tutes here showing how to sew them...
PatriceJ, cutebuns and LaceLady off the top of my head :D:D:D |
