The bad news, once cut, other than looking from side to side to see if I can tell a difference, how can I tell the 'right' side from the wrong side?

I use the side that I think is the prettier side.

If you're wanting to keep consistent, then mark each piece with an "x" for the wrong side.

I have heard that there isn't a right or wrong side. That being said, I think one side usually is a little more vibrant. I try to put that side on the "right" side. If you can't tell, then there is no right or wrong side.

One will have more of a bleed-through look and the other will be crisper. Take your pick! depending on the area of the fabric, it can vary from one side to the other.

I think it's really a matter of preference...whichever is the prettiest to you but just have to be consistent.

This is what I was told as well...and usually if there is a pattern to the fabric (leaves, etc) the image will be crisper on one side...

there is no right or wrong side- use the side you like best. i pay for both sides of my fabric and feel it is fine to use which ever side works in my project- regardless of what side some may (think) is wrong.
check out water color quilts- many many squares the (muted) side is used instead of the brighter side.
with batiks as with most hand dyes-both sides are used equally-as both are dyed. printed fabrics may have a more pronounced difference- but both sides are still used when it works for the project.

You paid for both sides. Use the one you like best.
