This book was made with clear CD sleeves in which I punched 2 holes and tied together with rope. You don't want the rope too tight so you can easily look through the pages. The CD sleeves I bought in Fry's Electronics |
Hi,
I cut a corner of every swatch and stick it to a piece of paper. That's in my wallet. Things like books I tend to forget. Have fun quilting! Anymart |
Thank you for the pics... it really helps...

Also wonder what is your favorite or best way you have found to take a small swatch of main fabric Thank you in advance for all your ideas... such a great group of people on this board... |
Good idea....

(talk about building a stash). I was able to play with them at home and decide which ones I wanted to use. Now, here is the important part. As I bought each piece, I made sure the selvege had all the information about the fabric (company, line, pattern #, etc.). If it wasn't all there, I used a ball point pen to write the info on the selvege of each piece so I wouldn't lose it - I always have to add the Color number as it is not printed on the selvege. Then, when I've decided what I want to do, I can go back and buy more or use the info on the selvege to find more of the fabric on the internet.

I take little cuttings and either paste or tape them to a large index card or sheet of paper. I then will usually put into a page protector with a copy of the pattern picture and supply list. works great for me. Also why I like a tote bag as a purse that is large enough to hold an 8 x 11 magazine, paper protectors, etc.

I like the safety pin idea, I think I'll use that one

Wow! Some great ideas! Thanks!

I use a plastic coupon envelope. That way each project has its own little partition and I can just toss my fabric pieces in there. I usually pin them together in the top corner with a basting pin so they don't migrate and that way when I pull it out, I don't leave fabric pieces lying on the store floor!
There are some great suggestions here! |
I have used snack bags that zip lock. I place long retangle size of the fabric and the project it will be used on. I have also bought notecards on a ring. can find 2x4 size I then use double side tape and tape the fabric onto the card. I small hair tie will hold the card together. This fits so well in your purse. I also write on one of the cards what the project I will need the fabric to complete the quilt. If you have more than one project you can divide the projects using small tabs to break up the pages. It is what works for me. Happy Quiltin!!!

I cut 2" squares from my fabric and sew them to a piece of copy paper, fold it up and put in pocket or handbag for shopping. I like the bigger squares to see better what I am trying to match.
I also take a copy of the instructions too, so I have all the info I need for the project! peace |

I cut a small piece with the dots then put in a coupon holder. Each slot is used for a different project. I write on a note card any details like yardage, pattern etc. so I know what I need when I get to the store.
My friend uses the coupon holder for storing her applique pieces once they are cut but not yet sewn. |

If it is only one fabric easy cut it from the border.
However if you are after a few, cut the ones you want, put them on a safety pin, and then just to keep them clean, I carry them around in a sandwich bag. |
I have a business card binder with small squares of fabric in each pocket and a slip of paper with the store name and how much I have so it keeps track of my stash amounts. I remove them when the fabric is used up.

I either pin the swatches together and attach to the page or sew them to a strip of card stock and attach to the page. It also makes a quilting diary of sorts since I keep notes about the projects. Might try the brag book next time around.
