I like to cut mine lengthwise if I have enough fabric and I cut mine 4-5 inches longer than what I expect to need. That way I have extra when I get to the end of my quilt and I don't have the puckers I used to get before I started doing this. I have also done pieced borders and that works too, but I also make those longer.

It depends on the quilt and the fabric. Stripes for instance. You might want them to go lengthwise on the border or crosswise so you'd have to cut accordingly.

I usually do them lengthwise.

Ok I should know this but for some reason I am confused.....When you cut your strips for boarders do you cut the fabric across or length wise? If you cut across is that cutting on the bias?? Which way is better to cut the fabric for boarders?
