I am in the same boat. I was raised in a house with two quilters (both mom AND dad) and grew up always taking time to do "crafty" things! The women I work with and the volunteers I am in charge of at work are amazed at the things I do ... They don't understand how I have the time ... Well, I MAKE time! There was a period where I did not do crafts, I did not sew, I did not quilt, I did not even get on the computer or read ... It was a very bad time in my life and my doctor saw the need to put me on medication. My DH felt awful because here we are - both just over 20 and straight out if college and I was miserable. After talking with my mom he realized that I was working too much and started scheduling time for me to be crafty. He starts talking me to the fabric store and craft stores and finding things that catch my eye and buying them for me to make :) Anyways ... Longer story short, I am now off medication and totally loving life :) just had a funky year where I had to MAKE time for ME things :)

Well, my philosophy has always been, If you want to do it bad enough you will FIND the time. Back when I was "younger" and working full time, with teenage sons & a husband getting in the way, I came home and sewed window treatments for other people, in addition to making a couple wedding gowns. It was my "therapy" after dealing with dental patients all day. Now I am retired, no husband and no one else around but the dogs and seem to have less time to sew. I think it is because I don't have any time constraints. I waste a lot of time.....

I work three 12 hour days a week and my days off during the week are my time to sew. No distractions.

You have to make time for yourself. I work full time and have three kids. I make time for me!!! Sometimes it isn't as much as I would like, but I do squeeze it in whenever I can.

What a wonderful and intuitive DH. I always turn to creative outlets during "down" times and it really does make a difference! Congrats on coming out of your "funky year"!

During my "regular schedule" otherwise know as during the school year, my weekdays are FILLED with school stuff. It is sad. Saturday is house day - cleaning, groceries, laundry, etc. -- but Sunday, SUNDAY is *MY* day -- the boyfriend plays paintball and I do whatever I want - which generally means playing in my sewing room.

Summer is much more laid back, I will have a few weeks of training where nothing is done outside of the training stuff, and then a couple of "sundays" in a row, and then usually more training.

It works for me because the BF wants to play paintball without me throwing a fit like his ex - I want to sew without him throwing a fit (so he gave me a room to "destroy" - with my stuff).

You just have to schedule it in.
