How do you get blood out of fabric?
It is on white fabric, but needless to say the whole quilt isn't white so bleach is out of the question.
Put some peroxide on the spot. Let it soak a while. Rub it, repeat til it's gone. I have done this on my husband's clothes. Sometimes at dialysis they will have a little accident, and blood with get everywhere. Hope this helps.
If it is a small spot of my blood, I chew a little wad of white thread and use the thread wad to dab the spot. The enzymes in your own saliva will dissolve your own blood spot. Sounds gross but it works.
Try peroxide, or color safe bleach on the stain. Treat the stain only, then wash.

This only works if it is your blood. If it is someone elses, you need their saliva. |
tartan and carmen had great solutions. my son was an emt and every so often got blood on his shirts. we used peroxide. i've also heard about the saliva. good luck!
Wash in cold water. I believe that cold water works for all 'biological' stains.

I was pin basting. i can't wash it because its not together yet. The saliva thing is hard to believe, but i may try that.

I was taught this method by my grandmother when I was a very little girl. It works, and it works every time. I will actually just lick the fabric and then blot off the stain.

If you're asking that question I hope everyone's ok.

The saliva trick works as long as it's your blood and your saliva. I just worked up enough to soak a cotton swap and just let it sit for couple seconds then lightly scrubbed the spot til it came out.
All above work great! Also for dried blood, have you tried Norwex? A little spritz and wah lah stain gone!
Yes the saliva thing really does work.
I've always used my own saliva, it works, swear by it
Just spit on it, it's like magic.
Only if it's your own blood. |

If the blood is a fresh stain wash it out with cold water. This usually works well. If the blood has been in the fabric for sometime, pour hydrogen peroxide on it and rub it out. Wash immediately. |
IT WORKS! A cotton ball or sewing thread wet with your own saliva will change the blood stain. Only if it is your blood.
At one of quarterly potlucks, our guild had a guest teacher showing us how to do reverse applique, which involves a lot of hand sewing. She advised us to use our own saliva to remove our blood.
Peroxide is what vet tech's use to remove blood from clothing. Even colors

I have to get blood tests every so often and one day my own blood began spurting out the side of the bandaid and the nurse used peroxide. My first thought was that my blouse would have one "bleached" sleeve, but it didn't. All the blood came out, leaving the sleeve like new.

I use ice. One cube rubbed on a small spot works; have done it successfully many times when I used to make dolls. However, I have a DH who is a bleeder, so have found myself on hands & knees ... many times ... with a raggedy towel full of ice cubes scrubbing away the blood from carpet.
Great advice has been given, hope you got it out!!!!!!!
I also use my saliva and it dose work.

I used a Clorox pen on a shirt with a stain. It was white background with different colored polka dots. Thankfully the stain was on the background fabric. It worked beautifully. With the pen you can control where the bleach gets then just wash as usual.
Trust us! Your own saliva works on your own blood! When you have removed the stain, use Grandmother's Spot Remover, available at most fabric shops, to make sure the spot is gone.

I quite agree with tartan, your own saliva will work -- only if it is your own blood though. Letty |
The saliva works on fresh stains, but does it work on dried ones also?
For dried blood stains you can't beat "Biz". I would pull the spot out to separate that area from the rest of the quilt, put a rubber band around that "nipple", and suspend it into a small container of Biz solution. Half a teaspoon of Biz in a cup of cool water should suffice. Just let it soak for several hours or overnight. Color fast fabrics would not be affected. |
all good ideas and I know the saliva method works. If it's not your own blood, I'd make a paste of OxyClean and water and let set for 10 minutes or so, then spot rinse. Wish you luck!!
I was told in a Stretch n Sew class I took long time ago that you should use your own blood on it.
My mother always told me to use lemon juice and water lay out in the sun if you can.It chould come out.
your own saliva on a spot works, it is the way I have used and I believe my grandmother used it before me..let us know if it works for you! Happy quilting!
I don't lick the fabric but have spit on my finger, sorry to be graphic, and wiped it on the stain and it usually works.
The saliva thing did work. The chewing up a ball of white thread idea I don't recommend. I tried it and just really gagged and started laughing. Just spit on the thing.
This sounds weird, but I learned this in my sister-in-laws custom drapery shop:
whoever bled on the fabric should put their own saliva on that spot as they have their enzymes that will break it down and a little water will wash it out. Nobody else's saliva will work! only the person that bled on the fabric. |
I agree with the saliva. Second choice would be the peroxide soak.
Hope you did the saliva thing because it always works for us. We do a "community" quilt for a bazaar and every once in a while someone will prick their finger. I did not know this but the person whose blood it is has to remove it as saliva evidently is different for different people. At any rate. the spot always comes out.
I work a lot of cold water into it ... peroxide also works as does "Grandma's Stain Remover"
This has worked for me in the past on white fabric. I don't bother with the thread, I just use saliva.
