I make mine to love and use My grandmother told me her hand quilted quilts were never to be stored in a plastic bag on a shelf she made them to be used and loved and I still feel her love when I cover up with one of her quilts or see my great grandbaby taking a nap on one in the floor , I just hope someday one of my quilts will be as cherished as hers are

I use them and my kids and grandkids always use them til they are worn-thats why I make them to use,unless it is a wallhanging

Growing up a quilt was always a part of our bedding, like a blanket. Only a few of our quilts are "fancy" enough to be spreads. My children, however, use them as a comfort thing when you don't feel good as well as using them for covers. All of our quilts are made to be used.

I love to make quilts of all kinds... so the ones that I keep are usually from swaps which I use or really pretty applique that I hang on my quilt ladder. I use a lot of them for decoration in my home, but if some one wants to grap one and use it it is okay with me... thats why I make them to use them....

I make mine to be used. I consider anything I've sewn together as patchwork as quilts. I'm making just a coaster size for the girls at my doctors office to put their coffee cups on. I make wall hangings, to be hung on the wall. I make lap size to snuggle with, and bed size as the top quilt, and I don't fold it up, it's used. Gifts I hope are used. Why make something just to keep it folded up in the closet. I was affraid to use them when I first started hand quilting in the 80's, but mine have held up very well.

My quilts are meant to be used, if it wears out I'll make another one.

I am just starting out and I will make several small ones before I try a bed-sized one. I have an idea to make "seasonal" ones to change out and hang them as a wall hanging in the hall going to our kitchen. That way I can make lots of them and I don't have to make them too big. :D

All my quilts have been given away with only one stipulation: that I not see it in the bed of the pickup used to cover furniture during a move. Other than that ...

That's my only stipulation! Please don't use a quilt I give you to wrap furniture in when you are moving. Other than that, use it for whatever you like. froggyintexas

Many of my quilts are hung on the wall, as I have very high ceilings and lots of wall space to display them. I also have many lap quilts laying on the furniture, and others given away as gifts (baby quilts, etc).

I never realized there was a difference between a beadspread and a blanket. I use mine as a blanket and I expect everyone that receives my quilts to do the same. Whether or not they do, I don't know but that's what they are made for.

I usually give mine away. I tell the new owner that this quilt is made with love and prayers and needs to be used and loved.
My Grand Children know that they can use them anyway they want.
If it wears out I can make another.
I do have one quilt that is not allowed to be used. It is the quilt that my DH grandmother made for him. It is almost 70 years old.
My sons have told me that they want it because it is the softest quilt ever. But it is falling apart so that is why it is off limits.
But the rest need to be used so they can be very soft from being loved.

To be used as wanted. I like it when a baby blanket/quilt is given to the one it was made for and allowed to cuddle, drag around and find his/her comfort zone. Yes a lot of work and love goes into them but not just for show.

I just got home from taking care of a 2 yr. old grandchild. My DIL had put a quilt on my bed but when I made the bed in the morn. I noticed it was actually a duvet. It was a reg. quilt with batting & backing but with an extra backing to make the duvet. Even without a blanket inside it was so warm I had to toss it aside. But the duvet idea was something I hadn't considered before. I would just make the top & backing (no batting). Then add another back to turn it into a pillow making it into a duvet.
Has anybody done it this way or am I the last to learn these things as usual? LOL

I know most of you are sweltering in heat but here in northwest Washington state, we have a cpl. days of heat & we use fans then a cpl. days of cold when I have to use heat. Today it's cold & raining. No time for a duvet anyway.

When I give a quilt , I always tell the person, that every stitch I put in is a little I Love You.

The best compliment I can get on a quilt is that is well loved....worn out by lovin'.

I really want everyone to use theirs as they please. I seem to always use mine as a bedspread where I take it off at night but I would rather leave it on but never do.

Being a pensioner I can only afford cheaper materials. Here in Australia it is the Bargain box at $10-12 per meter. I make baby quilts at least 40inches square so they will do for a long time not just for babies and Machine quilt them so they will last the distance. (I can't hand quilt very well. But the question is what do I do with them, I make bed size or bigger so they can be used when ever visitors arrive with out any( not often ) otherwise they are stored in a box or on bed till used.

I'm with cjomomma. I want them to be used and worn out so I can make more. I don't see what happens to a lot of mine as I give them to charity. As I love making kids quilts I just hope they bring comfort to sick, abused or neglected kids. I've given to Project Linus, Christmas Wishing Tree, (run by Salvation Army) and am now making for a local charity Project Love & Care. They provide for abused & neglected children who have been removed by the police.

I live at Hattonvale and am a member of the Rosewood Craft and Quilters. We make quilts for Linus all the time. It is good to know some one else close to me do it too,Katesnanna.You will have to come visit us one day, we are at the moment at the RSL Hall along side the railway line. Or come to our quilt show next year in August.We give the money to good causes, last year it was the West Morton Fire service and I forgot the other one.

Thank you for those kind words Annya. I will keep your show in mind. I enjoy the smaller local shows to the big Craft Shows although my best friend, Sheena (another quilter) & I usually go to those as well.

I use them both ways. I am trying to make a quilt for each month, kind of changes the look of my bed to go for the month. In winter I use the top layer for the month and pile the others of the season under. I have Sept through May done, but am at a loss at what to do for the summer.

I go there so I can find fabric that I would not otherwise be able to get and it is a good day out. Sometimes my daughter Dannielle comes and meets me there. We had a couple from the coast up last week with fabric at $3.75 meter and backing at $12meter so I spent nearly $100 to get all I wanted because it is not every day you get bargains like that. They are returning before we break up at Christmas. I will find out who they are if you want and I will let you know, maybe your friend will go with you or you group can ask them to visit with the fabric. :D :P

I make quilts as gifts for family. Graduation, new baby, and other special occasions. I have a few for myself. We use as a bedspread usually. I have one I made of watercolor memories and I never see it, so I covered our couch with it for awhile. No one sits on it except when we have company, so I can enjoy it. I do not have a wall to hang it on or I would do that.

Thank you Annya. We would really appreciate that, even though various husbands/partners think we have too much already. A rule I learned from my first quilt tutor:- You must use something from your stash in every quilt so you will have room to stash it when you buy more fabric.

I used only fabrics from my stash for this Teddy Bear Picnic quilt and only bought the Ballerina and teale fabrics for the baby/child quilt I will be doing next for my nieces third live baby. She lost her first boy hours before he was born. Now she had both girl and boy with another girl due in September. I always make quilts for when they are older too. I cant' afford to make quilts for the same people every time. I will ask our president next week about the mans name and give it to you on here, if that is OK.

Thank you Annya. Sad to hear of anyone losing a child. My eldest lost one at three months. Took her a long time to have her two. She was 35 when her son was born and 40 when she had her daughter. They are the light of my life.

just a note to say i made my mother a bueatiful burgandy and cream jacobs ladder quilt ,and she never even used it ,because she was afraid to mess it up, now she is gone to heaven, and i foud it still in the bag i sent it to her in ,it broke my heart,to know she never used it to keep warm with that was the whole purpose of making the quilt for her..now my niece has it ,i sure hope she uses it for her and her family as a herloom from her aunt teet..

the quilt pictured is the one I did for my mum and she has it in the cupboard so the Little Dogs don't get their claws hooked on the applique. There is no where she can hang it even though I put a rod pocket on it. I do to ALL my quilts now, makes it easy to hang if needed. The photo is not the best but it was taken at our Bi-annual quilt show.

I make mine to be used and washed.

Not to put in a showcase.

I have a dashound and a husband loves to cuddle up in them.

I make them to use. I love my quilts being used. I made a queen size one for our bed and we use it all the time it feels so good.

I am disappointed if they are not used.

Mine are made to be used. I have one I use as a spread. Others I have made for family and not sure how they use them,but, they are all made with love

I use mine as bedspreads, but I always use the bedspread as a blanket. That is, I never take it off at night. I also use them as picnic blankets, sofa blankets, keep one in the car in the winter, wallhangings, etc. When I give them away, I make them to be USED and whoever gets them has my best wishes to use them as they like. The only one ever abused was by my hateful ex-sister in law.

I have a few still here but most of the ones I have made are being used by children and grandchildren. I have made several for my nieces for their babies, but they are about 36inches square or more. You do hate seeing your hard work getting mistreated, bur so foar no one has done that.
