Here's how i keep a cup of coffee warm while im busy quilting. My iron doesnt have auto shut off and since i cant always get to have a sip while im busy this works well for me. So when the iron isnt needed it can be put to good use in the meantime. Just thought i post a silly little something to share whith the rest of you. Chris :)

Ninnie 09-13-2009 10:12 AM

Well, GK, necessity is the mother, or father, of invention!!! :D :D :D

I love it!

Ducky 09-13-2009 10:12 AM

Ha! I like it, I like it!

k3n 09-13-2009 10:18 AM

Just watch you don't burn your hand when you reach for your cup! (sorry, my Dad used to be Safety Monitor at work and I always see potential accidents waiting to happen! )

It's funny how things like that stick with us forever!

Yvonne 09-13-2009 10:29 AM

Very clever! Plus it keeps the coffee away from the sewing machine! Good idea that!!!

gaigai 09-13-2009 10:34 AM

Too funny!!!!   Good for you Chris!!! I'll have to try that. Oh, I don't drink coffee! Besides, I have too many cats lying on the table while I'm sewing to keep the iron on! Nothing like the smell of scorched cat hair!

cutebuns 09-13-2009 10:55 AM

Maybe I should try that, not so much to keep it hot but to keep the cats away from my cup, they have a thing for tea, my mom used to have to bring a second cup for the cat so she could have the cup to herself.

allisonirons 09-13-2009 10:55 AM

haha! Knowing me I would totally burn myself if I did that!

Quilt4u 09-13-2009 11:14 AM

Good idea; but don't brun yourself. you still need to do your quilts.

AtHomeSewing 09-13-2009 11:24 AM

Gee, I guess with a good steam iron making lattes could be done! :D

amma 09-13-2009 11:27 AM

What an idea  8)

joeyoz 09-13-2009 11:54 AM

Well aren't you the clever one. Please don't burn your hand reaching for the coffee.

Boston1954 09-13-2009 12:20 PM

Back home in Massachusetts, we call that Yankee ingenuity.

SulaBug 09-13-2009 12:24 PM

HEY!! What a great idea. I will
have to try it myself, today!!
:D :D :D :D :D

bearpaw 09-13-2009 02:49 PM

Cute! Send it to Fons and Porter as a quilting tip!

zennia 09-13-2009 05:18 PM

Thank You. We learn something new every day. This is a good one.

sewjoyce 09-13-2009 06:17 PM

Pickles 09-13-2009 06:21 PM

Great I have the very same iron as you have and I'll try this ..Thanks for the tip :D

littlehud 09-13-2009 06:24 PM

Darn, my iron has an auto shut off. I guess my iron and coffee will both be cold when I want them. :D

Janstar 09-13-2009 06:43 PM

Very clever Chris! What are you working on now? Look foreward to seeing your creations.

I was trying to figure out how my tea stayed warm the other day. lol
Love your thinking!

Jim's Gem 09-13-2009 07:21 PM

Great Idea!
Just be careful to not hit your knuckles against the iron when you grab your coffee!!!!

Too bad that the only thing allowed in my sewing room is water.

Mamaskeeto 09-14-2009 05:32 AM

Love it.

LOL! I should not have opened this thread while I am trying to wake up. It just tweeked my brain into one of those thought loops. Stop that Khan, it is just too hard to deal with early in the morning ... LOL!

How about that ironing board, is it a square made by you?

Quilting Aggi 09-14-2009 08:17 AM

I used to have a coffee cup warmer years ago. I have seen the same type of warmer years later that heats up big glass jar candles. I've seen them at Michaels. They work great too!!

Love your idea!!! Just be careful not to tip over your coffee!! :)

That is a material called lexan is comonly used in sign faces but works as an exellent cutting and ironing surface. When im ironing on it, it will curl upwards towards the iron and when it cools will lie flat again kind of a handy thing to me. :)

Or -- burn your lip on a hot cup. You're a genius. I'm gonna have to find an old iron. I love your cup.

I was laughing from the picture, but when I read this I roared. Good thing I didn't have coffee in my mouth.

Chris----very clever. Me, I would spill the coffee or burn my hand. Or--my sis would come along and spill the coffee!

Sheree from Chicago 09-17-2009 07:37 PM

This is a good tip! I personally get hotter than hell between the iron, sewing machine light and high intensity lamp if I'm quilting at night. But then, being menopausal doesn't help! LOL

RedGarnet222 09-17-2009 08:42 PM

Is this something the ordinary person can buy? I think I have outgrown my regular ironing board. That one skinny side is madening while trying to press those longer queen seams. Where did you buy yours?

By the way, I use a stanley thermos to keep my coffee warm. I hate running up and down the stairs for a fill up.

patsyo56721 09-18-2009 04:37 AM

Good idea

sandpat 09-18-2009 06:02 AM

Aw yes, great idea! I'm pretty klutzy myself and have to be careful leaving the iron sitting anywhere. My cats just love to jump up on the ironing board, it tips it just enough to make the iron fall to the floor and it would dump that coffee out in a heartbeat!

quiltsRfun 09-18-2009 11:04 AM

Clever idea. But I'd probably spill it. LOL
