Have been reading your comments for some time now and have gotten so much helpful information....you are awesome!! I finally decided to ask for your help myself...I made this crazy quilt and am going to machine quilt it. My question will meandering look ok or should I use some type of design?

meandering will look awesome!

I think a meandering or loose stipple would be a fun way do deal with the crazy blocks.
If I were doing it, I would use straight line quilting on the sashing -- probably 3 or 5 parallel lines in each sashing row, forming small squares in the intersections. It would make a nice contrast to the "free" and randomized blocks. Another idea you could try, depending on your comfort level in free motion quilting, would be to hide a doodled shape in each block, probably in the larger, center block area. So it would give it a little bit of an "I-spy" flavor -- find the flower shape, the fish, the house, the car, etc. RST |
I agree--meandering would look great on that. Beautiful quilt.
I like the idea of a little shape in each block, and you could also use a border design in the sashing, quilting it separately from the blocks. How wide is the sashing?
i agree meandreing or try some type of freemotion that would look realy good too
Thanks! My DH thought meandering would look best but wanted some other opinions...thought of putting something in the center blocks but wasn't sure what but RST had some great ideas! The sashing is 2 1/2".

I'm not good with FMQ but had to tell you how awesome your quilt is!! :D
Gorgeous quilt!

I can't answer this one but LOVE the quilt :!:

I took a class on this very thing last week and here's what the gal did. She got some see through tissue paper and drew a design on it. She put her quilt up on a design wall (tape it to your wall if you don't have a design wall because then you can step back and look at it). Then she pinned the tissue, with the design printed on it, to a block on her quilt. Because the tissue is thin, and you can see through it, you can see what the design will look like on the block. She did a different design on each piece of tissue and then pinned it to a block until she found the design she liked the best.
When you stand back and look at the different designs, it's pretty amazing. There's always one that catches your eye and you say "that's it". And there's always some that make you say YUK! |
that is an awesome quilt. what about expanding circles in each square with the stipple on the sashing? i think that would look pretty cool, using a multi color thread.
I also like the idea of a little picture in the blocks. That would be so cool.
Since I have never quilted anything, I can't answer your question. But, I love the quilt.
I am about ready to begin my first quilting experience, though. I am leaving town in the morning, so it will have to wait 'til next week. |

How fun is that? Wow! Nice job - "nice" is not the right word, it's just..........FUN!
what a bright happy quilt.
I am just learning FMQ but I want to say your quilt is the bomb. real nice job.
How about a spiral inside the block, counteracting the square with the circle, and a meander around the sashing and border. Edie

I did one similar and meander quilted it with varigated thread.
meandering a pattern would not be seen.
The design is really prety I think large meandering would look great.
Personally I would do spirals in each block and straight quilting in the sashing. I think that would look awesome.
I love your quilt. I think meandering would be nice.
Just want to say I love this quilt but I am not help with a quilting suggestion.
Love the quilt. What's the difference between meandering and quilting?
WOW! Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments on the quilt...sure made me feel good!!! Thanks for all the ideas...gives me something to think about. Like I said before you are awesome folks!!
What an incredible job you did on the quilt top! I like the idea of putting the design on the tissue & then seeing which one looks best on each block. Surprising how the different colors/fabrics can influence the position of a design, isin't it? I bet it will look spectacular when you are finished!
The quilt speaks for itself. Meandering would be great on it.
Spirals would be an interesting way to go
