I was just wondering as I was reading some of the post about this. How many out there have close friends they have quilt/sew days where they get together & work on whatever project they have going.

tlrnhi 06-12-2009 01:26 AM

I would love to have that, but there aren't many quilters here on Guam. :(

NiceNCLady 06-12-2009 01:34 AM

I would enjoy that too. There is a quilt guild in Raleigh which is not far but I would like to find a small group, sort of a quilting bee kind of setting. I believe it would inspire me because I'm really in a dry spell right now. I've almost forgotten what my sewing machine looks like lol

Ninnie 06-12-2009 01:45 AM

lone quilter here, no quilters close

Oh, mine do too.
I told them they need to come over and jusr try it. They said they would, but it's too far for them to drive. UGH!
But, they are always wanting me to go to their houses, which I do, but they won't make the drive to me. Not right, I'm telling ya!

If you look on NC map and find the Uwharrie NationalForest, that's where I' am. In a little community called Ophir! I,m about 2 hrs from Raliegh.

I live in the boonies, and quilt on a floor frame :D

Don't know where Clayton is, will look on map also!

Jamie 06-12-2009 03:14 AM

All Alone...I don't know anyone around here who quilts! Wish I did though, I could use some help, and company every once in a while :)

Don't you love that! I have family like that too!

Lone quilter here. Tried to get my sister and neice involved, didn't last too long.

Deb watkins 06-12-2009 03:57 AM

Basically a lone quilter. I do most of my work from 8pm till oh - as late as 2:30am. Not many that keep those same hours!

tlrnhi 06-12-2009 03:58 AM

I do! I do!!!
I can't seem to really sew during the day. No clue why.....

KGoodhand 06-12-2009 04:03 AM

I am a loner with the exception of the classes I take at my LQS.
I have a couple friends that quilt so I can bounce ideas off them and show them things but the actual quilting is done by myself.

Since my mom passed away 2 yrs ago. I'm all alone. No friends except on the computer. I mean I have "live" friends here but they all work and have their own lives and excitement to them is buying at Walmart. They don't quite get the idea of making it themselves....... Oh well, I have my 3 furbabies to keep me company

kwhite 06-12-2009 04:19 AM

I have quilting friends but we usually go it alone. I did spend three months in my old quilt room with one friend making her grand daughter a quilt and that convinced me I needed more room, Now I have a nice new quilt room that I can't quilt in cause the house is a disaster and I have to get that done before I have no DH either.

Jerrie 06-12-2009 04:44 AM

I have a quilting Buddy she is the one that taught me how to quilt i caught on very fast cause i already know how to sew i hade my own business for 10 yrs i designed clothes well we get together once a month alternating each others house and we provide lunch at who ever house we have not gotten together in about 3 months she been busy and plus she have a new baby and a family that keep her busy in which i am single so i can do what ever. But i enjoy when we get together this time it is at my house Don't know whats for lunch yet.

vicki reno 06-12-2009 04:49 AM

I am a lone quilter in that I do all my quilting by myself. Since I have moved and have the time, I joined a guild. Their meetings are once a month and there is also a sewing day the 4th Tuesday of the month. I have not been able to get to the sewing day yet, but hope to make it this month!
The meetings keep me motivated and I come home all fired up. Then the real world kicks in and I realize that I was just dreaming.

quilter1962 06-12-2009 04:52 AM

I quilt alone too - mind I prefer it that way as sometimes. I do like to have my quiet time, even though I have been told I border on the line of insanity with my outgoing personality. Who needs friends when your being told that huh. LOL

sewjoyce 06-12-2009 04:52 AM

I'm a loner when it comes to quilting and sewing. But I do have several friends who also sew and quilt. We usually meet once a month, eat, talk, eat and show everyone what we're working on. It's great fun!

sandpat 06-12-2009 04:55 AM

Loner here also....I do know a couple of people who quilt, but we don't get together to do it. I think our schedules just don't jive.

racnquilter 06-12-2009 04:55 AM

Lately since I have set up a room to sew in, I've done quite a bit on my own, but generally my mom comes over and we work on projects together.

thismomquilts 06-12-2009 05:24 AM

I usually quilt at home - just me. However, there is a group of us who do get together - tomorrow, for instance!, to quilt together sometimes. We are always showing each other our quilts, table runners, etc. We shop together often. We've recruited one new quilter in the last year!! Progress. Maybe more this next year. I like quilting at home alone and with other too.

Esqmommy 06-12-2009 05:31 AM

I'm a lone quilter. My neice and I used to work together a bit, but she moved to Iowa and that left me alone again! I take occasional classes at my LQS but that's about it.

amma 06-12-2009 05:42 AM

I'm a lone quilter too. No one in my circle of family or friends quilts, or have the time right now to learn.

Quilting Aggi 06-12-2009 05:43 AM

For the most part I sew/quilt alone, but I do have a group I sew with on Thursday nights. Mum and I started a Quilting Group about 5 years ago at Mum's place. Since we both moved recently to the new house, we haven't been with the group for weeks. I think we will be ready to start up the group again next Thursday. I can't WAIT to get back to it again.

I do enjoy sewing on my own though, I find it my "ME" time and it's very therapeutic. Mum will be sewing with me more now that she is living in my basement apartment and the sewing studio is right outside her kitchen door!!!

azdesertrat 06-12-2009 05:45 AM

loner here.I belong to a guild but I never seem to get to the meetings withmy work schedule

Karenmay 06-12-2009 06:31 AM

Another lone quilter here :( ...I did start to teach my daughter but she always seems to be at work!

I'm a closet quilter. Not too many guys quilting in my area. I mentioned my quilting to one woman at the bar once. She asked me, if I was gay. If you knew me, you'd know how rediculous that question was. I chase skirts, every chance I get.

tlrnhi 06-12-2009 06:40 AM

Nothing wrong with a man that quilts!
I have a friend that knits and crochets and he is ALWAYS chasing skirts...that is when his wife doesn't catch him looking lol

OMG -- is quilting means a man is gay -- if a woman works on a car, does that make HER gay??? Hope you sneered and walked off from the woman (notice I didn't say "lady") at the bar!!

Bev,
I can see 2 of your furbabies in your avatar. What is your other furbabie?

CajunQuilter2 06-12-2009 06:54 AM

My friend is the one who taught me to quilt. We try to get together once a week to work on whatever projects we each have going at the time. She has also taught another friend to quilt. That friend crochets berevement outfits. That led us to making things for one of the local hospital NICU for the babies. So we have several different directions we can go when we get together to sew/quilt. We love shopping at our local qs together. We are planning a trip to Houston in Oct. for the International quilt show there. 2 of us have been there twice before, but for one it will be her first time.

minstrel 06-12-2009 07:09 AM

I quilt alone. I don't know anyone else here who quilts. I think it'd be fun to quilt with someone else, but I like being in my space because I'm the kind of person who'd probably pack up to take my stuff somewhere and forget something obvious!

desertdebbe 06-12-2009 07:12 AM

I too quilt alone. I started a quilting forum so I would have
people to talk with about it. They keep me motivated, which
is good.

zyxquilts 06-12-2009 07:13 AM

Both for me. I do go to an Adult Ed quilt class on Tuesday nights - & have for the last 17 years! lol I also have friends that quilt & we do try to get together once in a while & have a "stitch-n-8itch" day. I belong to one guild & am a past officer of the So. Calif Council of Quilt Guilds. But I also do a lot of my work at home on my own. That would be easy to see if you saw my house! Piles of fabric & goodies on the dining table, couch, coffee table....well pretty much every horizontal surface in the place! LOL

QuiltMania 06-12-2009 07:52 AM

Sadly, I'm all alone. I was going to try a guild once but they sounded so snooty that I didn't feel welcome.

quiltluvr 06-12-2009 08:03 AM

I do it all alone, shows, shopping, ideas, sewing. I used to work with a lady that we'd get together and go to the best fabric shops and shows. Then I had to move. I've done classes, in fact one of the shops have an open day for anyone to come in and sit and sew. I just lack the motivation to pack up everything to go do it. My bad!

Rose Marie 06-12-2009 08:26 AM

I quilt alone. But belong to a small group that gets togather once a month.
We dont quilt togather but share what we make. We also make blocks and one lady puts them togather for wounded warrier quilts. Then we share the cost of sending out for quilting.
We are now doing a round robin where we work on each others quilt.
But none of this is done in a group setting. We do our work at home alone.
Meetings are for visiting and discussion.

motomom 06-12-2009 09:15 AM

A lone quilter. My job requires me to talk to soo many people every day, I'm always glad to sit down by myself and quilt. It is my quiet time.
