do you actually sew? I seem to spend most of my time dreaming about making this or making that and don't get much accomplished do you?

I try and get 1 hour a day in. I'm retired, and it seems like I'm busy all the time, or reading stuff on this darned quilting board. I'm going to sign off now & sew!

I spend 1- 7 hours a day sewing, quilting, crafting

I try for at least one. Some days I do more, some days I do less.

I try to get at least 4-5 hrs at the sewing machine and 2-3 hrs at the longarm. Too many hrs on the QB. I need to get back to work.

I sew/quilt everyday. Hours? Usually from the time I get up in the morning until I go to bed at night. Everyday is not like that but lots of days. We (husband and I) are both retired and have both mothers in Assisted Living and are with them or doing for them lots of the time but sewing is on the top of my list of things to do. I usually keep a handwork/binding project to carry with my wherever I go. I was always taught that idle hands are the devils-workshop so I don't like down time.

I only sew about four hours a week.
Geez, I feel like a slacker!

During the week I only average a bout 20 minutes a day; and I have to set the timer to make sure I get that much in. I work a 4 day week, so one day is all mine to do whatever I want, some days I'm surprised when my husband comes home @4p & I've been in the sewing room since 5am!

i devote 5-6 hours a day to some aspect of my quilting business.

its never enough time but i have to take care of my family too.

Hours per DAY...*sigh*...I wish.

some days none, some days a hour or so....most times its none... My projects are slow moving..
but me and them aren't going anyplace... :)

I try to do 1 - 2 hours every night after work and 8 - 10 on the weekends. I can really get "lost" in my "bat cave" as my husband calls it. Last week I was informed that the paper mill where I am the Admin Asst. is closing, so by September I may be able to do 8 - 10 hours a day! I am shocked at the closing of the Mill, but I am only two years away from retirement, so not as rough for me as some of the young guys/gals with young families.

Well It is my business to sew/quilt. SO I would say 8 hours day.

I'm with you ... I spend more time day dreaming than actually doing :oops:

ETA --- now that I've read all the replies I'm depressed coz I work full time and squeeze my quilting in on the weekends. I drive about an hour and a half each day so I get to day dream about quilts then LOL

I realized Monday that we will be traveling almost all of September. Tons of projects I want done before first gb arrives in December, not to mention Christmas gifts, etc. So starting Tuesday I've decided to sew everyday from Noon to 4pm. Back to it..just taking a quick break...lol.

Depends on the day. Yesterday I sewed about 1 1/2 the day before, I had a friend here sewing and I put in about 4 1/2. Today I have spend 1 1/2 at the machine and plan on doing some more

It just depends if I'm working on a quilt I might spend 8 hours.

I work full time so it is hard to get any time in.

Not enough. I work full time and still have teens at home so I have a wish list of items to work on. Someday I will be at the sewing machine more... just not now.

I put in about 3 to 4 hours during the day and in the evening I quilt till I get tired.

Ditto- On a good day when no one is bothering me for something I can sew all day!!!

some days an hour- some days many hours- some days not at all (but those are few and far between)
i take hand work or prep work with me to work and work on stuff during breaks-
when home i try to divide my time between sewing my own projects- and quilting- some times i get home from work and sew until i fall into bed---5 or 6 hours-
other times i come home and sit here on this dog=gone computer...but i hand stitched a binding at work today- so ...

I work 12 hour shifts-usually 4 per week. At the end of the day I crawl home and get my jammies on and that is it for the day. On my days off i sew 2-3 hours a day, and if I can, i sew all day!! My idea of heaven!

Myself, right now, i spend no time quilting daily. We just finished with my daughter's wedding. I made her dress, from her design, and dealt with the details of the wedding preparation for 6 months. She wanted to do it all herself (meaning 'us').

I mandate in my family that one hour a day is mine and you can get alot done in one hour. Hubby can watch kids or they can go to bed and you get your hour. I know how busy women are today. I work 40 hrs and drive 10 and take care of my home, family and pets. I am not superwoman. (She has a better figure) It's tuff. You have to be organized to a point but not to much.
During the week, one night I will pick some fabric and pattern. Another night I will cut some but not all fabric. I save the weekends for most of my sewing. I do not concern myself with dust bunnies or tall grass!

umm, isn't it more like hours per week? When I'm working (I teach) I have my 35-40 hour work week, plus all the time spent grading papers, adding into the gradebook, lesson planning, making new worksheets - it's probably about 65-70 hours a week. <- Yep, I do give LOTS of homework, projects and stuff to be graded! Then I get home, and have to clean up, take care of DD who's 2, cook for DH, take a shower and hopefully get at least 2 hours of sleep, before everything starts again.

So, I guess: in the summer, I can get 5-10 hours a week, and in winter I get maybe 2-3 hours if I'm really lucky. :)

I have all the time I want to do whatever. Some days I'm in my sewing room all day, other days I plan & think and waste my time, then other days I'm actually busy doing other things. So I forgot . . . what was the question?

I quilt in chunks--some weeks I'll quilt for several days straight 10+ hours a day, hopping between projects that catch my fancy and ignoring the entire rest of my life.

...Then I remember that I have actual work to do in order to pay the bills, and wander into my office for a month and despite looking longingly at my design board and the piles of squares my cats are furring up, I try to exercise some self-control. :)

I always get this idea that maybe I can set up a schedule and quilt for an hour a day while working on a single project... sometimes I even set the kitchen timer for an hour--but then it goes off and I think, "I'll just finish pressing this fabric." And then I finish the fabric and think, "If I leave it out on the table, the cats will sit on it; if I fold it, I'll have to press it again... I'll just cut it up." And that leads to the thought, "Well, I don't want to just leave the cut pieces, what if they get lost in my chaos? I'll just sew them together..." And suddenly it's 3:00 a.m. and it's back into another week of quilting 10 hours a day!

It's always cause for celebration when I manage to finally get the last stitch sewn in the binding of one of my UFOs... it means I can work again! :P

I am sorta like Vat.....retired. I come in here in the am and leave about supper time. Then I do hand work while watching tv with DH (usually he is asleep in his chair). I keep a hand project going also

Some days I sew 12 hours and some days just a few minutes. It's according to how I feel when I wake up and what I want to do for the day. Sometimes I go on all day car trips by myself to out of the way fabric shops. I count that as a quilting day!

Even with the luxury of a sewing room, I don't sew everyday. I could spend an hour or 2 every evening, but I get on this darn computer. LOL

I go in spurts.

3 to 4 hours a day. Why do all these other people need so much sleep? They sleep, I quilt. There'd be more time to quilt if they didn't need food and clean clothes.

Hand sew everyday, Sewing room when I can, need to make a schedule, I just redid my sr and now I can find stuff in there before it was depressing because it was such a mess. I need to get a new chair, Can anyone reccomend one?

Since I do it for a living, I pretty much sew all day long with breaks for canning, pulling weeds, picking berries and walking the dogs. Oh! and reading this forum.

I work part-time, babysit my DGD two days a week and try to help my mom. So there are weeks when I get no sewing machine time, but I make sure to visit the QB every day! (LOL)

I sew in between everything else I do. I decided long ago just a few minutes here and there can really add up.....but my real joy is when I can set aside a few hours at a time. It takes me to another place...

I spend a lot of time ddreaming...and surfing the net looking for patterns and chatting on the boards but when its time to sew I can go for days non stop...I need that creative flow to strike.

Usually an hour or so at the machine & however long I watch TV at night for hand work.
