I have too many machines as well, but my backup/classroom machine is a Janome Platinum. My primary machine just got too darn heavy for me to take to classes and I would have been lost without the Janome when I took my primary machine in for servicing. Not having a machine to sew on for a few days - OMG, perish the thought!!
I own seven machine mostly for different things
I have 6 and a serger. But if I start a project on one I like to fininsh the project on the same machine is that not wierd?
Wow, I have one, a Kenmore about 8 yrs old, I have never had a problem with. I feel like I need to play catch-up lol. But I have no room for more.
I have 3 sewing machines and 2 sergers. You always need a back-up. That's what i keep telling myself
I have seven machines.
Well, after thinking about it I have several also. I have a singer that I somehow broke trying to clean, it made beautiful stitches. I then got a Bernina 230 PE, then a Bernina 730, that I sold, then a Janome 350e, then another Janome (like the Hello Kitty), then the biggest one of all, an ABM Innova 18". My sister gave me an old Montgomery Ward that I haven't done anything with so far. After I write it down I start to sound like a collector, didn't realize I had this many machines since some are hid from sight.

I have 5.

I contemplated selling it but then decided to keep it for a backup.
I bought the Sapphire 870 two years ago and use it for quilting (it has a larger throat space). The Babylock (15+ years) is great for for piecing. The little Pfaff Hobby (20+ yrs) travels for classes. And, my "portable" Singer (1950's vintage) is idle, at the moment, but I can't part with it -- it was the first machine I bought, in high school (many many years ago!). I find it hard to part with my machines because you don't get a good trade-in price, usually. Gave another Babylock to a family member -- that was a happy thing to do. |
My first machine was an expensive Elna Quilters Pro 7200
Then I found this lovely Singer Capri in a sewing shop and bought it for pennies, it is my favourite machine especially for freemotion: http://inlinethumb29.webshots.com/45...200x200Q85.jpg I have a1939 Singer hand crank in pristine condition, rescued from a junk shop and an old Frister Rossmann cub 4 for use in my Patchwork classes. And I will most likely end up with more as I can's resist the older machines  |
I have 3 Janomes. Always need a back-up, perish the thought that I should be without a machine to sew or quilt on. LOL
Two, er, make that TOO. Too many that is. I have at least two dozen portables maybe more, including a hand crank and a Featherwieght. But I'm giving some away soon to some of the ladies at church. And 9 (I got rid of several last year) cabinet ones including a treadle. I also have a quilting machine and frame. Only 4 or 5 of them do I use on a regular basis.
My main machine is my Janome 6500 and I have my previous machine my Bernina 830 Record as my backup. I also have my Husqvarna Prelude 350 which I take out to classes, five featherweights, a Brother XL 5232 and a Singer 457 that I use with the 4-H group and a Serger. Although I am machine blessed, I am looking for a Singer 201 or 301, a hand crank and a treadle. I like machines!
right now I have 7- but that could change at any moment- there's always room for one more, right????
I have 13 and a longarm. 3 are treadles; 2 handcranks; 1 serger; 1 emb. machine; 1 longarm and the rest are regular machines. I am downsizing!!
i have 11 sewing machines, a treadle, a serger and 5 toy machines from years ago, maybe a few more in the barn lol
Can't resist a reasonable machine. |
I have a 1980's Singer, a gift from my brother, an old White treadle that needs a new belt, my mother's Kenmore, circa 1950, on which she made beautiful garments, and a 1920-30 Singer in a cabinet so pretty I keep it in the living room as a lamp table when not in use. It's a great piecing machine. Two were passed on to others.
I have an early 1990s Singer, a 1914-ish Singer, and a mid-1920s Singer. My grandmother is going into a nursing home so she's giving out her stuff that she can't take with her; I will get a sewing machine. That makes four now.
I really want a hand-crank sewing machine - preferably from the mid-19th century, but if it makes the same chain stitching I don't care about the date. :) |
I have two regular machines and a serger. Check to see if you may have a piece of thread in your shuttle or in the shuttle area that is hanging. Mine only had a small lint size piece stuck in the shuttle.
Ok, lets see....
I have a Janome 6600 QC I use for quilting, about 2 years old. I have a Janome 300E Embroidery machine A 1920 Singer treadle 66k, the lotus pattern, restored it myself. A 1956 Singer 99k in cabinet (my favorite machine) A 1952 221k Featherweight. A 1954 222k Featherweight, only just got for Christmas, so I havent had a chance to really use her yet. So that makes 6....not about to get rid of any of them! |
Three electric (Bernina 640, Pfaff Tiptronic 2030, Singer 301), three treadle or handcrank (2 Singer 66 and one White Family Rotary) that are in different stages of working order. I can't seem to get one of the 66's tension right and the redeye needs a box to hold it since the cabinet it came with was just destroyed by neglect :(. I might just set it in the cabinet the plain black 66 came in, but someone CUT the treadle off instead of just unscrewing it when they converted the machine to electric. I unconverted it!
I have a 1960s a Singer (I think 324), a Brother XR 58, a singer treadle, a vintage singer electric in a cabinet, a featherweight and an Elnita which is the hardest to use. They all work and I use them all.
And I will most likely end up with more as I can's resist the older machines [/quote]
I hear ya! I just love your Singer Capri! |
4 regular machines that work.
What kind of long arm do you have? Will be purchasing one and would like input on the different brands. Will not be spending thousands of dollars, but will get a good machine. Especially looking for user friendly, good stitching, etc.
poor little me. i have one. i had two but took pity on my sister and gave her my backup machine. does that mean i need to go shopping?!
i think my adenaline got the best of me, i hit send twice...
I have 4 but plan to go down to 3.
Babylock Espire is my go-to gal. Pfaff 7550 is my backup. Pfaff Grandquilter will go on the frame. Pfaff 2058 was a mistake (impulse purchase) and is waiting to find a new home. |
I have a 60's model Singer, two Janomes (one is broken), two Kenmores, and two sergers, one full size and one mini.
2 janomes
2 vintage singers and 2 sergers. my dh thinks I have too many :) |

Five, plus my serger!
I have 6 DSM's, three of which need work. I also have a 17" Voyager and 10' Hinterberg frame...technically an inch short of being a long arm, but is does the job!
Well lets see here I have 19 machines in my studio that I use all the time and I have 6 that I will not use because they are super nice museum quality machines. And they range from 1871-1963 and all but two are treadle operated.

A quilter can never have to many sewing machine. Its like a carpender how many saw's does he have. How many brushes
does a painter need. I have 8 sewing and embroidery machine. some I use 2 at a time. some I loan out when family need to get there repaired. |
I have just gotten my 5th machine for Christmas...A 1939 Featherweight! What a wonderful Hubby!!!
I have the Husqvarna Sapphire 830 as my main machine, a small Janome to take to classes, a Baby Lock embroidery machine, and a Singer RedEye Treadle that I want to get to know how to use for when we are watching TV in the family room... Last time I took my machine in for a "tune up" it was in the shop for over a week!!! Would have been horrible if I didn't have my other "babies"!! |

My husband says too many! I have 8 and picking up another on Saturday! All but two run and I will be fixing them up in the spring. I would like to have a walking foot for one or two more of them, but just have one for the Janome. I will be working on that though! Would love to get one for the 1959 Husqvarna!
