Lets see. I have pared down quite a bit before I moved.
Brother QC1000 my main machine Singers:201(getting a spa treatment)301A (got it from a friend at Christmas)401,403,503, Household, Kenmore 48. So that makes 8 .Hopefully I will be able to set up a few to use once I get my room done. forgot about my serger . that makes 9? I do have a small Mueller(?) hand crank but it is only for show. Now do my toy machines count? |
I have way more than I have room for. Trouble is, I can't find it in my heart to part with any of them. Sad, but true. I even brought another one in this Sunday. Someone broke into the old barn at the mom's old place and stole a bunch of stuff. They didn't touch the house (yet), so I went in and drug the old Pfaff 130 home from there before they steal it too. So, now I have 11 machines total.
They took a blacksmith's anvil that has been in our family since my 5 ggrandfather left Germany in 1832 for the USA. How sad is that... I have got to figure out where I can store the old Singer 3135... working on that one. It's still over and Mom's. This is me too. I have 6 machines, 3 are new. I still use my 30 yo Bernina which is not going to last much longer. My repairman said he has never had anyone wear one out before. I'm thinking of having him rebuild it since I can't find another machine I like. |

The rest I haven't made up my mind as to weather I want to keep them yet. I find it very helpful to have more than one sewing machine.

I have two that are working and one that isn't. My DH has taken over one of them, so, I guess you'd say I only have one. But, there is more in my future!!
Wow, that's a loaded question. I have one new Singer, one very old Singer, one new Serger, a "new" Brother (about 2 years old, hardly used, but it blew a gasket), and about 10 in the attic in various stages of blown gasket. Thinking of getting a small backup. Gave one away to two of my daughters, that's... can't be sure but that's a whole lot of sewing machines. I'm beginning to suspect I might have a problem...
I Have four - a Janome 6500, currently broken; a cheap Singer my husband bought on the web; an old Kenmore that will only sew backwards; and a Huskvarna Viking my husband bought at a yardsale for $10, which is the one I'm using right now. It sews beautifully. Nothing fancy. Had to buy bobbins for it, and they cost $12.95; more than the machine! I need to get my Janome fixed.
Oh, in additon to those 4 I have a Janome serger, and a 1905 treadle machine that works.
working and non-working=8
I sew mostly with my Kenmore, 1975 singer is back up and my treadle works, others are for "love" |
I have 18 and they all are in great condition. Here's the list: One Singer 15-91, one Singer 66, one Necchi Bu Supernova, made in Italy, two Singer 99's, one Singer Spartan 192, one Singer 101, three Singer 201-2's, one Singer 301, one Singer 401, one singer 404, 3 Singer Featherweights, one singer 2010 Touch-tronic, and a Brother cs6000i. I think that's all. I'm going to keep all but 4 of these machines. I'll be selling the 66, the two 99's and the 192, BUT I will be adding a 500 to my collection as soon as I can find one reasonably priced! I love the vintage machines because they are so reliable and I can do all the maintenance on them myself.

I once made quilt blocks on a serger at the shop where I bought my serger. I used the fabric guide (extra purchase) on the machine in the classroom. Went home and put same guide on exact same model of serger (I'm positive it didn't get bumped or moved) and when I started putting the blocks together ... the seam allowances were not the same and, of course, the fabric is cut away with a serger. Wouldn't you just know it ... the majority of the blocks were bigger than the ones from class and I had to sew on the sewing machine extra seam allowance on each block to get them to match. Needless to say, this is a major UFO in my closet from 1994! I ought to pull it out and just make something with the bigger blocks and have it be less than queen size. I'll have to go back and see how many blocks I'm talking about. BTW I went back and measured the classroom machine?? The hole for the screw that holds on the attachment was not the same distance from the needle as my exact same model! |
Two for me, and one serger. Holding out for longarm.
Oh, I have a Pfaff 7570, Viking Designer 1, Elna Stella (same size as a featherweight), and a Pfaff 4760 serger. Oh, and my the singer tredle that was my hubby's grandmother's.
I started quilting about 4 yrs ago and I have 2 sewing machines that both get used fairly regularly.
Two sewing machines, a brother and a Husquvarna. And my Brothers Embroidery machine.
I have my work horse Kenmore, she is abt. 12 yrs old. A new Kenmore I got for Christmas Last yr. Great for piecing but I dont think it could stand up to what I put the other through.
A NewHome treadel, I need to get some needles for and use it. An old Singer cabinet with original electric wiring and motor don't want to use it until I decide if it is safe... may need to be redwired. So that is 4...But truely want a FW maybe one day. BillsBonBon |
I have 3 and one that is my mom's old machine - each sews well, and I use them as needed; my good machine is also an embroidery machine, but I use it for my quilting also - and my regular machine I use for mending and tough projects. It is handy to have a backup. I have a serger and have not really learned to use it yet; we got it at an auction and I have not taken the time to learn how to rethread it - and although I did use it for a short duration and loved it - I have not gotten back to it.
I have two Husqvarnas, an old singer threadle machine i bought from the original owner....it works like a charm, also a old Singer lightweight as well as a serger.....wish i could get a longarm but i`d have to move for that!!! lol

I have 2 pfaff's, 2 featherweights, Singer 99, Spartan (same as the Singer99), 2 kenmores from the 40's, and a Viking mega quilter, plus a pfaff treadle machine, one serger. I guess I am just about at my limit unless I find a new special one.....
All of these are in sewing condition...Just depends on my mood |
I have 20 machines. I really need to find a home for some of them but it's so hard to decide which ones.

I have 2 machines and a serger...nice to have a backup, like someone said, I keep both up and going for different projects...
I have my Pfaff 2054 for sewing (love it), the Brother SE350 which is a combo sewing and embroiderying machine (can go either way for backup), my new Brother PE770, and a White serger from 1980's that's heavy as a tank and stitches up a storm! I also acquired a Kenmore from a thirft shop (an 80's, and nursed it back to health - oiled it, was seized and would barely move). I wanted it for the manual adjustments in anticipation of free-motion embroidery. Love 'em all like kids.

But since I am selling these machines and they will not live here for long, I dont even count these in my machine inventory. Billy |
10 sewing machines one serger, (3 wilcox & gibbs not working) but so cute! use 6 and seger
I have three and use them all. I have one out for lone to my sister, she doesn't have a back up. I all so have a surger, so I 'm machine poor.
I just have one machine right now it is my old singer. My new machine that my hubby wanted to buy me for xmas is on hold till income tax time.
I have 12 in all - 3 are treadles (given to me free) and one serger. Best I can remember I bought only 4 of my machines & the serger. Can't beat that for price. Gosh Billy, I'm almost up to your count and 6 months ago I didn't even realize I needed this many machines.
Sewing machines are like potato chips you cant have just one!
Billy |
Now I'm kind of nervous my one will give out on me! I hope to get a more quilting-friendly sewing machine this year, since quilting seems to be more than a passing interest!
I have a Pfaff 2170 embroidery machine,a Pfaff 262 that I am the original owner of bought in 1968, a Pfaff 130, a Frister and Rossmann handcrank, and my mother's New England Queen treadle that works for I am currently piecing a certain quilt on it. I love them all.
My dream machine is the Pfaff 5.5 Creative Vision. An older Pfaff that owners will not part with is the 7570 embroidery. Known lots of quilters that love piecing on it. I would probably own more machines if I had the space! |
I have 23 machines...some are going to go...but will be keeping at least 19 of them...
I should be able to add one more next week...a Singer 99 in a cabinet! :) Am rather excited about that! |
I have 2 older Pfaffs 1475 (was told never to sell this one) 7570 and Bernina 200 and 830 and 1 Bernina serger. I only use the Bernina now
I have 7 vintage machines one being a treadle and a home serger, At the shop i have 4 industrial machines a blind hemmer, a 5 thread serger and a pfaff 545 walking foot sewing machine and an old singer 241-13, the shop machines are becouse i do upholstery and drapery work. Chris :)
I have one and it does everything I need do on it. No fancy quilting stitches, just a basic machine. Although, I sure would love to get a couple more.
As I read the posts of others, I feel like I am definitely out of the league. I have ONE machine--and its a Bernette--which I haven't heard anyone else mention. I do lots of sewing and it has been faithful so far. When I have problems it is usually the thread or I need to change the needle. In the middle of a project, yes,it would be nice to have a back-up to goto. But then, life is what it is and I am grateful for my one machine.
I don't know where I'd put any more if I had them! It's so interesting to hear about all these machines -- some I've never even heard of! I learned to sew on my grandmother's Singer treadle machine (50+ yrs ago). I now have: 1)a 10-yr-old Pfaff 7570, which is now my main sewing/quilting machine (a real workhorse & I love the IDT feature); 2) a Viking Designer SE (got 3+ yrs ago because I wanted a bigger embroidery area); 3) a non-electronic White (for doing heavy stuff or dragging around town - rarely used); 4) a 19-yr-old Singer 5-thread Serger & 5) a Brother 4-thread Serger. I also have a Singer Serger up in IL where my sons live, as I'm always asked to make something when I visit. So guess that would be 6 - certainly more than I need, tho I DO sometimes have 2 machines going at once!
The reason I have so many is I never trade anything in when I get a new one. The vintage machines were inherited from DM and DMIL. Only the White was picked up at a garage sale for $1. Yes...One dollar! LOL. It's in a cabinet that needs repair but the machine runs fine. I got it for my DD, if she ever comes and picks it up. I still have the first machine I ever bought, centuries ago!
