Baglady, is that a Bernina 830 that was made in the 1970s? Or THE Bernina 830 that costs an arm and a leg or two? I own a 1970s 830 but have recently sewn on THE Bernina 830. Nice machine!!!! :-D

I have 2.
My Jenome Gem that I started with and now take to classes because it is so light.
I also have a Pfaff QE that I LOVE LOVE. The IDT is the reason I bought it and actually do some of my own FMQ on smaller quilts.
Thats all I need and I am happy with both of them.

How do find this group of sewers that are not able to afford to purchase sewing machines...I might give up one of mine.

It’s easy to understand “not understanding” why… so many machines and why… FWs. FWs purrrr as you sew with them and they are fascinating! I could and would be very happy with one machine. Sewing is what is important.

This Quilting Board has increased my quilting skills and overall knowledge about mostly sewing but in so many other areas also. The threads of info on vintage sewing machines is what got me going. I don’t have a lot of $$ invested but oh… the time spent, the people my DH and I have met and the histories of these machines have been so satisfying. It is truly amazing how many treadle machines are listed on Craig list everyday.

Many of my machines are earmarked for grandchildren. However, if I run into anyone who needs a machine and has a genuine interest in sewing, I will give them one of my machines without hesitating. I have been blessed and I would love to bless others. I am a third generation serious sewer, I have several grandchildren I have taught/am teaching to sew.

I have twenty machines. Two handcranks are mainly for display and for my grandchildren to play with ~~ which they do for hours. 3 treadles. I currently sew on 4 (electric) machines regularly but hope soon to have about 6 set up for specific jobs. We have the space at the moment so it works for us :-D

Let's see: I have 7 Singers (vintage) plus 1 bought when I got married 25 yrs ago. I have 2 Necchi BU's; 1 Bernina 117L; a plastic piece of crap going to a niece; 1 Morse; 1 Federal (japanese); 1 Bel Air (made in Occupied Japan); and 1 Apartment Electric. I also have a National Two Spools treadle. Plus I have a lead on several other vintage machines - it is a disease and I have caught the bug big time. I also forgot my daughter's vintage Singer. That makes 17 machines.

I love the vintage mchines for the way they sew and I am thinning the herd but gifting them to friends who like vintage machines and need a machine but can't afford the $$ for even a thrift shop machine. I clean them up, oil them, sew something with them and gift them away. I would love to gift away my wedding Singer but doubt that DH would be either happy or understanding of that. He does support my obsession. I also support his obsession with tools and more tools and yard toys.
