while sewing without thread? I swear yesterday I must have went through 3 bobbins while playing yesterday.... I wish my machine had an alert button on it like my embroidery machine does and tells me when the bobbin gets low. I remember one time reading that some gentleman used a bobbin as his spool of thread and that way both top and bottom would run out of thread at the same time. How many of you seem to go miles without thread?

Those bobbin alerts would be really useful if they gave an estimate of how many inches of stitching were left - like my car does by letting me know how many kilometers I can drive with the fuel in the tank.
I can see my bobbin, and it's like a game to see how close to the end I can sew. A perfect win is when the end of the bobbin thread comes up when I pull the fabric away at the end of the seam. :)

Yesterday, I went to a demo day at my dealer for the Janome MC11000SE - what a nice machine. It has a bobbin alert and in the settings, it appeared as if you could set it for how far in advance you'd want to be alerted - isn't that nice?!?!

My machine just stops sewing. Sometimes that's frustrating too if it stops in a spot I don't want to.

I am thankful I have bobbin alert..But before I had it...I had ISSUES...

I am fortunate enough to have a bobbin alert on my Brother Innovi 1000........it's saved me miles of unthreaded sewing. LOL

I don't think mine beeps anymore or am so used to it I ignore it because it beeped at half way,, 1/4, but NOT when out and thats when I NEED it:)

I have the first Singer Quantum model and it has a red light that comes on when the bobbin is getting low. I can sew about a yard length when the light comes on before it runs out. I bought this machine before I started quilting for the decorative stitches it had. It's a great machine, makes perfect satin stitches and tiny machine applique stitches.

Mine stops and shows the bobbin pic, but I can push ok and sew a bit more till I get to a stopping point, of course I do have to keep hitting ok if I want go futher than 1/2". My old runs out and I am just merrily sewing along till I finally realize I'm out. It's really bad now when I go from one machine to the other. The newer one has spoiled me.
