Hi Sharon,
My quilting teacher introduced me to paper piecing and I fell in love with it, I mostly do all of CarolDoak.com pieces and her directions are so helpful, she has wonderful illistrated books and newletters that are so informative. Please check her out and you too will fall hard for paper piecing, Good Luck, hope I helped a little Sherrie |
that is so totally beautiful, is there a pattern for this piece or did you design it yourself...wow

I have only taken a class but I really want to do one of the designs in Bella Bella, based on Italian mosiacs for my brother -

Hello, I love paper piecing. My guild is doing a color study, which has helped a lot, and I started using a book I have on stars that are paper pieced. Now everyone in the guild hates me. Oh, well, I have some awesome pics. I don't know how to add them to this though. Can someone tell me how to add pics to this. Thank you. LOL in Christ, Happy Stitchin

I enjoy doing paper piecing. It is a perfect way to get a great block
I have done several paper piecing quilts and hope to do more this year. The results are so precis it is hard to resist!
Remembering that there are no quilt police, I will dare to go out on a limb to be the odd man out. I would rather do anything than paper piece. I have done it and will continue to do so only if there is absolutely no other means to an end. Even with my Dear Jane blocks I have pieced 1'' half square triangles to avoid paper piecing. I am amazed to see what others do with PP but it's just not for me. I don't know, maybe I am not dyslexic enough. Please don't blackball me! VBG

I love English paper piecing but as far as regular PP, I just can't seem to get it. Love the precision look and I admire all of you that enjoy it but even after two classes it's just not for me.

I am wanting to learn and am awaiting for a class to start at the LQS.
Carman, those blocks are beautiful, breath taking. Judy |
Such vibrant and beautiful colors this is absolutely awesome.

I like paper piecing. I learned using Carol Doak's patterns and method. My avatar is a mystery quilt she posted to the list last year. I just recently finished it.
Carmen, your blocks are beautiful. I love your color combinations. Obie |

PP is the way to go - especially when one does not have a 1/4" foot! If tearing off paper is a problem, try a smaller stitch length, tracing paper, or foundation fabric (aka muslin).
Searching internet for "paper piecing" finds several tutorials. For free patterns, I like paperpanache.com, blockcentral.com and quilterscache.com. And yes, the pillow was paper pieced. |
I am learning to paper piece

I have been PP for about six years now and have worked on every size from Christmas oraments to a Wedding Ring for our son's marriage. A friend started out when I quit work and joined the community quilting guild. I find that I use up all those little scapes so now I can not even discard even the smallest piece of material. It is like prying them out of hands now. I trade scapes with the ladies in our guild so we don't always see the same pieces.
I love paper piecing too, A good cheap source for the paper is a visit to your local newspaper office and ask for news print paper (unprinted, of course). They usually have ends of rolls that they will give you. I stack about five pieces of paper and staple them, then copy the pattern on the machine without thread. Or, if you need only one or two, you can mark with a pencil.

THAT'S THE ONLY WAY I DO FLYING GEESE.
I love to do the English paper piecing with hexagons.....if that counts.
I LOOOVE paper piecing. One year I made a quilt for each of my 4 grandchildren for Christmas. Three of them were paper pieced. I ran out of time so the fourth one was a rail fence made out of sports and car fabrics - bet you can guess what this kid liked. I have made wall hanging of all sizes and difficulty. And I keep finding more things to make.
I like to paper piece! I do both kinds (foundation and English). For foundation paper piecing I like Carol Doak designs. For English paper piecing paperpieces.com is a good source for patterns and the little precut paper pieces.
Rubia, I was a complete novice and went to a one-off quilting class where I was able to get the lady who owned the shop to coach me. I only needed an hour or so and I knew all I needed to know! I don't think I would have learnt so quickly from a book or online tutorial - I'm the kind of learner who needs to be shown how to do it, then do it myself, and be able to ask questions! But it's really not difficult - and gives great results.
I love paper piecing. I don't have to worry about cutting my pieces perfect.
I love paper piecing.
I've only done a few but they were years ago, I do remember enjoying it though.
I would like to thank the person who gave me the link I found a book on Sun Bonnet Sue/Overal Bill in PP also everyone for their coments on PP. Thanks again Carhop
I'd like to learn paper piecing. What are some good places to find free patterns and tutorials? Thank you,
I envy you gals for being able to paper piece. I have tried and tried and have had many teachers who have tried to help me. I am left-handed and dyslexic, so it does seem that this something I cannot do. Will try again in a class in guild this fall. Wish me luck!
I've never given a thought to "handedness". It does make things interesting. I'll ask a quilting friend who is a lefty and paper pieces if she does anything different. I know when she demos things that occasionally she will say "don't do like me I'm a lefty" so maybe there IS some trick that she's devised.
I also PP and learned from Carol Doak. Mostly I have used newsprint that comes in large pads from an office supply store. I use a dull blade and cut 8 1/2 x 11 sheets and put them in my printer. I just figured out that when it comes time to remove the paper, a light misting of water with an atomizer, will cause it to almost fall out. It is my favorite kind of piecing.
