And the magazines seem to be selling new fabric lines, not new patterns, so I don't buy them.

I would rather buy a book that teaches me easier ways to do an old block that I would never attempt on my own the original way. I just got Trash to Treasure Pineapple Quilts by Gyleen X. Fitzgerald from ascarletthread.com and it came with a template that makes creating a perfect pineapple block so easy and I would never have attempted it in the past.

Well the way I see it for myself that there is no such
thing as to many, be cause in every book and magazine I
read and/or look at I learn something new or different.

And since I believe that there is no such thing as learning
to much than that stands to reason that all the magazines
and books are NEEDED!

When I as a brand new quliter, I bought almost everything I could find. Now that I have some design confidence, I tend toward block encyclopedias and have destashed lots of magazine.

More than I have. Even though patterns are the same when done in different fabrics the patterns seem to change. I always love looking at quilting magazines. Makes my want-to-do list grow.
I could start my own recycling business but I don't want to give any up!

I think the REAL question is, do we buy them for that one pattern that we're dying to have but might never make.....or do we buy them to leaf through for years and years of dreaming? In other words, I'm not sure I'll ever have enough magazines! Books, yes, I think I have plenty. But magazines????? NEVER!!!!!

I saved Quilters' Newsletter from the beginning and for years and finally gifted them and a pile of charm squares to a newer quilter; went through my book shelf and donated about 20 pounds to a group. My tastes have changed through the years and now I have room for a couple of new books by authors I admire. I really don't need a personal library now that I have discovered QB and so many fine on line sites. I have a 'bookmarked' virtual library to peruse.

I hoard for a year, go back through several times and pick out those patterns and articles that I can't give up. I copy those and put into a file/notebook and then turn the magazine over to my LQG for their bizarre table at the annual show so someone else can get enjoyment from the. I also occasionly will donate to the local nursing home knowing some of them would enjoy them too. Plus this way I have space for even more new ones!
