I personaly have none for myself...well that is not true..I have a very pretty lap quilt that was sent to me..I make them, but I have yet to keep one...Personaly I see nothing wrong with having hundreds of them. :)

"NEED" has nothing to do with it. If you can not give them away, keep them all. Rotate them as you change the decoration in your room. Make them for when your kids have their own homes and keep it coming. There is no limit.

I end up giving most of them away, but I don't think you can have too many. tee hee

I completely agree you can never have enough. I have quilts that my grandmother made for me when I was a growing up and some my that mother made. Used to get a new one every year from my grandmoether. Some are old and falling apart but I would never get rid of them I love them as much now as when they were new. I haven't made any for myself but I have for my kids and other family. I bought fabric the other day to make myself 1.

Lol, well thanks for the replies, I feel a lot better now ;) Another question then is how do you store them? I have a problem with clutter-being that I can't stand it, so everything would need to have it's place if you know what I mean. Do you all just pile them up on spare beds (of which I don't have-my spare room is my craft room)?

Well, and since you love doing this so much , I'll bet when people get a glance at them, they may want to buy them from you. There's always that decision when you make a quilt to keep it or give it away to someone. Quilts hold an amazing amount of love, care and attention that I don't think any washing machine can ever wash away, so whoever gets one is a lucky person. Can't wait to see photos!

I have given most of what I have done away, I don't have a quilt on any bed in my house, how sad is that? Even when I do, and have given every loved one a quilt, I will always be working on the next one. It is my "art". I paint with fabric like an artist paints with paint, or pencils, etc... I doubt that any artist quits painting or drawing when their walls are covered and their friends walls, families walls, etc...There is always a new color to try, or pattern, or technique. If you have never laid awake at night planning and dreaming about, your next project, then maybe you will stop when all the beds are covered.

I have 3 in the house and none on the bed. My latest count is 30 full-sized finished. One of these days, I'll make one for the bed.

Too many??? There is no such thing in my opinion.

Actually, the best place to store quilts is flat on a bed, if you have a spare bed out of the sun.
Aside from that, I have been told to make a cotton pillow case to store each quilt in. (Be sure to take it out occassionally to refold it. Creases that are left, tend to cause threads to break over time.)
I know someone who rolls her quilts on a tube (covered in muslin) to store them.
Another thought... Look up the international quilt study center online. They have tips for quilt storage, too.
