My lovely DH reminded me the other day, that I have over 36 completed quilts/wall hangings in our home. Am I in the norm, or is that too many. So, how many do you have, that are displayed or used on a bed or couch?
I have none. It's very bad. As soon as they're done they just flow through my hands like water.
I wish I had kept some! |
I only have two of my own quilts. One is the first quilt I made, which is a couch throw, and the other is a twin size quilt on my daughter's bed (so I guess it is hers and not mine, but its in the house). I also have a table topper that I made myself.
Edited to add: I forgot about a little 12" by 12" quilt I've got hanging on my bedroom wall, too. |
Larger quilts I only have 2, but twins and laps I probably have over 12, and then I have wallhangings for every season. I change them seasonally. I have many tops waiting to be quilted too.
This is embarrassing but I probably have almost 200- a lot of them are antiques, many I've made also. I rotate them so I can enjoy them w/o being buried alive!!! lol
I have about that..but most of mine are collected vintage ones..everything I make seems to leave before I can admire it being finished!
I do have small pieces like table toppers, runners, wall hangings, but only 4 quilts out of 40+ in this house are mine that I made...and two of those are my boys! |
I'd say maybe 25 or so if we're counting wall hangings.
Not a fair question.. I just stored 6 on batting rolls, they are queen size.
at least near 30, not counting all my table runners and such. |
I have about 20 here. Didn't realize that til I started adding them up.
About 18 - 20.
The first quilt I made, a signature quilt for my mom's 80th birthday, and an ufo sampler. Not many for the number of years I've been quilting. They all go out the door.......
Good thing she didn't ask how many fabrics we have lol
oohhh, yall make me feel good and that I am not alone. I have somewhere between 20-30.
I have 20 to 30 too. About 10 I made with vintage tops found at thrift stores, antique stores and ebay. I love the old tops and keep the finished quilts. Whenever one of my 6 kids comes to visit I send quilts home with them.

one that I've made (Their Completed life with me is Short). And about eight vintage/antiquey that I've collected.

Loved reading the responses to the question. My list is small but I feel interesting....
1. An old star one that I am not sure is my mother made it or if one of my grandma's did, however it is falling apart & packed away. 2. The last one my mother had quilted Friendship Plume it is over 55 years old. 3. Robbing Peter to Pay Paul made my my mother before she passed away in 1973, not used much. 4. Grandma's Flower Garden made all my hand my mothers mother's sister, top only. Having to replace some of the small pieces that had moth holes in it. 5. A table runner that a friend made as a gift for me. 6. A couple little doll blankets that I made as a little girl(I started sewing at the age of 5) 7. A crib blanket I embroidered, pieced & machined quilted, again as a little girl. Just finished appliqueing an Hawaiian Breadfruit Leaf motif on a small block & hand quilted. Needs a border. A larger one basted called Sweetheart, again Hawaiian motif. Thats it --- but have lotssssss of ideas from the quilting board. Thank You I do enjoy looking here. |
i have 3 quilts and i've been quilting for over 10 years. i either sell them or there gifts.
i don't really have time to make a quilt for myself. |
I have been quilting a year and have made 15 quilts. I still have 13 of them, and three are out at a time. Quilts are just too much work to give away, I think. I did give one to a charity auction, and I made one for my sister-in-law, but I don't think she appreciated it. Sort of soured me on making any for anyone else, I'm afraid.
The two my grandmother made for me completely by hand. One is threadbare, but the G'ma's Flower Garden is in good shape.
I have about 10 that I made. Not sure how many I have that my DGM made.
Made about 60 & have at least 30. Some are very worn out & my furgrandbabies use them. When they get really bad, my husband takes them out to his garage to cover his car. It took me years to make any improvements in my "techniques?"--it took finding this board & all of the tips, etc, I found here :) :) :) I was a beginner for YEARS- now I am an advanced beginner----THANKS ALL!!!
I don't know but would like more!
Hmmmmmmmm, well from where i am sitting i can see 12, 2 full size, rest are lap size and wall ones, lots more upstairs in the bedrooms and on the wall going up. Probably 35-40
I have probably about 15 quilts in my home. Unless, of course, you count WIP's and UFO's...
At least 50, maybe more. Was mostly my mom's, and sister's. They both are gone now, so I got them all. Only a few I have made. But I love them all..And I miss them both more everyday, but their quilts are great memories that I hold dear...
I have about 20. Most are from my grandmother in law. I have a baby quilt my great grandmother made for my dad. I only have 7 that I made.
I have at least 100-all sizes. Not to mention the ones I've given away. I take a picture of every quilt I make and keep them in a album!
I have two wallhangings and three bed quilts that are "out" to be enjoyed, but I probably have 30-40 waiting for homes or keeping because I can't bear to part with them. My very first project is a wallhanging that is above my headboard as a reminder of how far I have come since 2001. One of the best things I have ever done for myself was to take the adult-ed quilting class. Found my passion and a group of the best friends ever, as we meet every week for our stitch n bitch group and have also created a little guild which meets once a month to create donation quilts.
No you're just fine. Tell your husband that my sister-in-laws walls in her home are held up with my quilts.
I have only one that I made, 3 that my Mom made (one for me and 2 for DH), and a wall hanging of a Louisiana Blue Crane that my DGD made for my birthday. It is special because she made it and I was raised on the coast and love the old Blues. All my quilts were made for gifts to family.
I only have 2 of my quilts here. Probably because my output is slow as I do everything by hand, but also because I usually make my quilts as gifts.
upstairs I have 21 either on the beds, couches or displayed
and 18 downstairs on display |
about 10 completed and about 10 in various stages towards completion. most given away as gifts.
I have made eight finished quilts so far for my family and making a over sized queen for my bed.
Probably close to what you have. Only one is a wall hanging. I have 14 children so most quilts are in use.
I only have three.........none made by me but that is going to change now!!!!
I have none--I give all of my quilts away. There is only one wallhanging that I made that I wished I had kept--but the friend I gave it to loves it, so that's OK. I still have the pattern so I may make another one someday. I do put pictures of all of my quilts in a scrapbook with the story behind the quilts. So at least I have a good reminder of what I have made!
