I use patterns for all quilts.

I use patterns, but always change some part of it to do it my way. That includes bag patterns. I made a Bow Tucks, but had to put a zipper in it and used different handles. Quilts I usually make my own patterns. I have been thinking of buying some quilt design software to help me design my own.

I have used a pettern only once and only for the center of my quilt then took off from there. I kind of like designing as I go on some things if I do not have specific colors in mind,

Patterns are good examples; really enjoy looking at the magazines, patterns and sample quilts at the LQS. Never made one exactly like a pattern and definitly not the same fabric. There is a Civil War pattern I want to try..so will use my fabrics and the basic block and see what turns out. Each quilt is like a mystery quilt...cut piece and see what happens. PP again is using the pattern and I put them together when it pleases me.

I'm not good enough yet to do a quilt on my own, but would like to creat a quilt on my own some day.
By the way the block you have under your name is beautiful, is that from a pattern or did you do it on your own. I would love to make it. |
I use patterns most of the time but have made more than a few of my own designs. Just love my Electric Quilt program for that.

I see noticed you are in Granbury, I live in Dallas. Does Granbury have quilt shops, sounds like a dumb question but I thought I would ask so the next time I go there I can shop.

Being new to quilting I do use patterns but I do hope that one day I will be able to just think something up and figure out how much fabric I would need.☺

I have purchased books to make quilts - but don't normally purchase just the pattern - although I have on occassion
