Depending on his deployment and what his job was in Iraq the quilt could have been a big target for the enemy.

I would bet the farm that as soon as he is home he will be using it every day and will feel the love in the quilt.

I think we need to remember that some of our beautiful quilts knock the sox off of people who aren't used to this kind of art. The soldier probably couldn't imagine using it in the way you intended. He wanted it preserved for him. He didn't want it ruined. Dragging it around Iraq isn't exactly the best way to care for a lovely hand quilted, hand embroidered, gift such as this. He'll have it for a lifetime after he gets back. I feel sure that's what he was thinking.

I learned some time ago that even though I had put so much time and effort into a quilt that I needed to let go when I gave it away. My teacher was my youngest sister who has 5 LARGE dogs who are allowed to sleep on the bed. I'm just glad that she loves the quilt because that's why I made it!

I have made quilts for all family members, and they are well used...guess they know if they wear them out, I will make them another. Quilts are made to be used--that's how they got started a long, long time ago.

That's really a shame, but I think the others are right. There must be a reason he sent it home for now....

I don't have anything in this house FULL of 18th century antiques that I DO not/will not USE, USE, USE. I can't see just looking at something collect dust and saving it for my kids and grandkids to fight over/sell/whatever.

My bed is stacked with several of my quilts right now and my dogs love them. Use them and enjoy!

Yes, we use the quilts I make. And I make sure when I give a quilt away that the recipient knows that it was made for them to use.

At my house, we also use the quilts my grandmother made---my three oldest granddaughters sleep under quilts that their great, great grandmother made---and they LOVE it!!!

I think it is a shame to put a quilt in a closet and keep it for prosperity. There is enough fabric out there to quilt the whole world. If I use one up, I'll make another to take its place.

I am not a professional quilter--I am not making those gorgeous quilts you see at the big quilt shows. I appreciate the time and talent that goes into those quilts and I love admiring them when I attend the show, but my quilts are loved by my family and friends and that is the best prize I could ever win!

I have a quilt on our bed everyday of the year. We use it to keep warm in winter. We it in the summer also. I have about 6 I rotate. Our 4 cats are not allowed in our room, they eat my 5' mother-in-law's tongue leaves, then they look bad. I have two toy poodles and a very thick mattress and they can't jump that high. I give most of my quilts away and I'm sure they are all used. At least, they tell me they use them.

I use the ones my Grandmother made me I have 3 She told me she better not find them in a plastic Bag in a Closet somewhere she made them to use. Shes been gone 12 yrs now and I love her quilts more now than ever It makes me think of the love she put in every stitch she hand quilted . They may be worn but I still love to use them
