I did, must have been ten. Little yellow gingham stuffed animal. First project.
the bobbin had to be wound for me first. It was a long bullet like holder dropped in the top of the sewing base. Have no clue where that wonderful machine ended. Did not move with us to our new home. Fun to remember, thanks for the post! Ell |
My gandma had a treadle but all I could ever do is make it go forwards and backwards. Guess I was too little to get the hang of getting it to go one way.

I learned on a a treadle! :) That 'swishing' sound takes me back to the bestest of memories! :)

My mother would not let me and my sisters touch her electric Kenmore machine. When I was 7, she got a singer treadle at an auction for $3.00. I made my first skirt, with a waistband, then lots of barbie clothes. She never let us touch her Kenmore, but when she wanted to use the treadle for what ever reason, we had to give way. I don't know what happened to that Kenmore, but my sister still has the treadle. We drew straws.

I sewed a little on my moms electric but in middle school I had to sew on a threadle. My friends laugh guess I was in a poor neighborhood and a very polish one.

The high school I attended had a treadle that I used. Would love to have one now. It had a purr like no other.

I learned on a treddle that dad bought mom after they married in 1938. I haven't used it in 20 plus years, but with some many of you having featherweights I do want to dig it out sometime & see.

I learned on my grandma's machine and then we got it at home. I now have my ow treadle as the one we had is gone. I like my treadle.

In 7th grade I took home economics(do they even call it that anymore?). We learned to sew on treadle machines first and then after we finished our apron, moved to the "new electric" machines lol. We didnt own a sewing machine so it was all new to me.
