Went to Eleanor Burns shop in CA this Summer and spent a day with her and my quilt group from church. She is really amazing.

I'm another one who is self taught. I watched Simply Quilts, Quilt In A Day, America Quilts Creatively & Nancy Zieman. I've also got a pretty good size library. I've never been to a class, retreat, show, guild or anything. I also learn quite a bit from this group and another one that I'm a member of. The good thing is: I don't worry about or care about the quilt police. I'm happy with my quilts and so are the recipients. As long as that's the case the quilt police are held at bay.

Early on, I took a few classes. Then joined a quilt quild. Still learn from my friends there... a new technique now and then. And enjoy the friedships I've made along the way.

don't know when I've seen so many responses. I'm self taught also. My mom quilted and sewed for we kids but wasn't much for teaching, or I wasn't much for learning at that time :0)

I took my first Home Ec class in 7th grade, made an apron and was hooked on sewing. Sewed for my boys and did crafts, then when they were gone and married I took up quilting.

Some friends at church were attending a small quilting group and invited me to sit in one evening and I was hooked again and have been quilting for ten years now. I see something and try drawing it out and making it. Some times it turns out to be a good block other times it may get pitched but it seems I'm always sewing something. My DIL says I need more beds and tables to display all the quilts and runner/toppers I've made.

I am self-taught also. I love to devour magazines, books (I've checked out all the quilting books from the library and there were lots!) and oh&aw at shows, then go home and pull something together. I love color and fabric and haven't taken a sewing class since home-ec in grade school (except to learn how to use my Bernina)

I learned by osmosis ... sitting with a group of ladies once a week as they quilted and just watching and learning.

I was self taught to piece quilts till I decided I definitely needed lessons. What I began with ended up in the cats bed. She liked it!
