being that i do mostly small quilts i almost never buy more than 1/2 yard if i really love it i might buy a yard unless its white tone on tone or muslin then i buy by the bolt

2 - 3 metres but I have been known to buy 5 metres if the price is right.

I try 3 yds minimum, but will go as many as 5

I have done two small quilts and have bought sheets for backing. If I make a queen size quilt how much material would you buy to make backing? I'm new to quilting and I know that you all can help me. Thank you for giving me an idea what I can safely buy if I see something I really like. Good info!!

Just depends on how my finances are at the time :)

Usually a yard but three if I am REALLY crazy about it. I have friends that buy bolts but I think that's a bit much.

Depends on how much money I have!

I usually buy 3 yds if I really love it. I used to just buy two, and then end up wishing I had more.

Funny that this question came up, I went to Lens Mills yesterday and found a bolt of flannel for 1.00 so I bought that whole thing about 17 yards , then I decided to go back today, no more $1 deals but they had some on for $2 a yards, and I ended up with another 13 yards..... better get sewing!!
