3yards

I buy 3 yards if I really love it and 6 if it's on sale so I can use for backings. I do buy fat quarters not very often. People know that I sew and that I do a lot of charity quilts so they give it to me. What will my daughter do with it when I'm gone...............

On sale I buy 3 plus yards, looks good for a backing the bolt
otherwise if it is a multi print I can use as a border 3 yards, coordinating fabrics 1 yds

This is where I was at until last night; I pulled out a top that has been waiting for a border. I was planning on cutting the border length wise cause its going to be quite wide and didn't want to build it with bias seams - alas I'm three inches short to build mitered corners. Since it is an on point quilt it needs to have mitered corners (this will be a first for me). No, its is not really an excuse to make another trip to the fabric store. From this point forward it is going to be 3 yds or more!

I like to do scrappy quilts,so I will get 1 or 1 and a half yards, but any really pretty neutral( creams, beiges, white on white etc,) I will get 3, so I have plenty of background fabric.

Early on in my stash-building career, I bought 4 yards of EVERYTHING. Then, prices started going up, and I was really glad I had so much fabric. Now I'm thinking I should continue buying 4 yards of fabric I love, because we KNOW prices are NOT going to go down.

If it's not on sale I usually don't buy it! Of course on occasion I will get a kit if I just have to have it!!

2 to 3 metres if it is not on sale. On sale 4 to 5 metres . If it is some I realy like it would depend on how much money I could afford at the time.

If I like it--two yards. If I really like it--three yards. If I really, really like it--four yards.
