How much time daily do you spend on Quilting Board? and what do you look at first?

Quilting Board is my first stop on the internet and I have to tell myself, ok, time to stop and do something else. I love this site and it offers so much to me in every topic. I do love the tutorials and that is what I look at first, then pictures of quilts, next, items for sale. From then on, I go to whatever catches my eye. Thanks to all the contributors and people who make this such an enjoyable site to visit. Now, I really should stop and take my dogs out. I do spend at least 2 hours during the course of the day on Quilting Board.

carslo 11-14-2012 07:04 AM

I have my morning coffee with everyone here at QB, I always stop at what is for sale, then to main and then to pictures. Anything else I look at is because a caption catches my eye. Likely around an hour throughout the day!

Gail B 11-14-2012 07:09 AM

I grab a coffee as soon as I get up & turn on the computer. I spend 1 1/2-2 hours on QB. I check out the main section first, then pictures, then I poke around at the other topics. Thank goodness we are retired so time doesn't really matter as long a I remember to feed the dog & let her out.

pollyjvan9 11-14-2012 07:14 AM

I take my GGS to a mothers day out program at 9:30, so I sit down at the computer, go to Facebook first to see what my family is doing, and then to the QB. I go to either Main or Pictures, doesn't make any difference which one, and start down the line. Some mornings I post a lot, some not so much. After I get back home I stop several times during the day when I need to take a break to loosen up the old neck and shoulders...sometimes go way back to see if I missed anything. Probably about an hour to two hours a day.

Silver Needle 11-14-2012 07:18 AM

I take my iPad to bed with me and read and answer the posts until I'm ready to fall asleep. Since I have insomnia, we're talking 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Then sometimes I will read while I have my morning coffee. I always read main and usually vintage. I don't often look at the picture page. Everything there looks so fabulous I get intimidated for my own work, which I'm told is quite good. I just never feel what I've done is perfect enough!

QuiltnNan 11-14-2012 07:20 AM

i am on the board for a few hours in the morning and quite often throughout the day. i start with Main, then Pictures, then GCC. eventually, i hit all the forums. i like to use Archives so that i don't miss any.

Gail B, you and I could get together. We start off our day the same way. Have to have my coffee while I enjoy the Board. My dogs let me know when it is time to stretch those old legs. Love retirement.

mawluv 11-14-2012 07:28 AM

Around 3+ hours each day!

Murphy1 11-14-2012 07:51 AM

Sitting in the living room looking out two windows, drinking a cup of coffee and exploring QB is a most wonderful way to start the day as a retiree. I have learned so much here and been inspired by all the lovely quilts shared by such wonderful quilters. I start with the main, then explore pictures and often check out the recipes. I even met a few QB ers that live near by and we get together occasionally throughout the year. Yes, this is my first stop in the morning and I gaze at the clock and try to keep it to 1 1/2 hours, but occasionally I peek back during the day. Good Morning to all.

Tartan 11-14-2012 07:51 AM

First thing in the morning with my cup of tea. I check back on the Ipad as I take breaks during my sewing projects I'm working on. I spend about an hour before bed at night.

liont 11-14-2012 08:01 AM

In the morning, after my emails. On and off when taking breaks throughout the day.
I go to the pictures first!

cad_queen_2000 11-14-2012 08:06 AM

I usually go to "Main and check out all the ones that I haven't read before.

thimblebug6000 11-14-2012 08:13 AM

LOTS of time, would probably get some UFOs completed if I didn't. I start on the Archives page with the In Search of; then Main; then Pictures.

vkasal 11-14-2012 08:24 AM

I read the email threads first then will get on the board and go through each category, I probably spend at least 1-2 hours a day on the board. It is so inspiring and I've learned SO much!

Lori S 11-14-2012 08:54 AM

My routine once out of bed , is start up the computer , Get my work e- mail open( I office from home) , then open the quiltboard and paruse the topics in main, then check for anything of interest list in for sale, then photos.. then other sections but in no particular order.
I have been known to surf this site when on particularly boring work conference calls.... but SHHH don't tell .

Toni C 11-14-2012 09:04 AM

LOL WAAAYY to much time. Usually first thing in morning with coffee then throughout the day then before bed. Sometimes I hardly get anything else done in the day I'm embarrassed to say.

Sierra 11-14-2012 09:11 AM

I guess, as a retired person I'm pretty average. I have fibromyalgia (spell?) and don't move well in the morning, so my DH brings me a simple breakfast in bed and I eat and sip coffee for the usual 1-2 hours and then get up and get at my quilting (if life doesn't get in the way).

sandy l 11-14-2012 09:12 AM

Read Archive, not much time for any of the others

jo ford 11-14-2012 09:52 AM

About 1 hour first thing in the morning and several times during the day as I check my emails. I consider it time well spent because I use the info. It's like having a good friend. I have put many hints to use, enjoyed hearing others who have the same mishaps as I have, privately celebrated with success stories, and just plain good advice. Also use several of the recipes. I work as a volunteer in a thrift store that benefits the homeless. We have many vintage and orphaned sewing machines donated. I check them out, clean & oil, etc. Hints here are a big help with that.

Tashana 11-14-2012 11:29 AM

My iPhone and I have coffe in the morning with QB - messages, main, pictures, Secret Santa thread. I come back often during the day especially while waiting for kids to finish dance, gymnastics, etc. if it was not for the IPhone I would rarely have time. And of course, before bed I check to see if I missed something important. You never know!

moosie 11-14-2012 11:38 AM

I'm a software engineer that spends my life tied to my screens. I have to be honest this place is a guilty pleasure I sneak off to and read and now I'm answering ROFLMAO!! So addictive.

schoolteacher 11-14-2012 11:57 AM

Looks like I'm not the only guilty party. Get up at 5:00 and am on here for an hour...like to look at the main threads, then go to the tutorials, and then to the resources. Then I have to see the gossip on fb. Go to work and then during the day I am off and on every once in awhile. Too much but there's too much to look at also.

Quiltngolfer 11-14-2012 12:19 PM

I get on the Quiltboard first thing every morning while I have my coffee. When I sit down throughout the day to rest, I pick up the IPad and read some more. Finally, while we are watching tv at night, I keep the IPad in my lap and read the latest on Quiltboard. I' m obsessed! First, I read the pictures, then main, then tutorial and organization.

pyffer3 11-14-2012 12:21 PM

I have to confess. I get to work at 8:00 and after logging into the office system, I get the internet up and running and QB is the second place I go after checking my emails. I leave it minimized all day and check it out throughout the day. I get rather bored most days so I spend an awful lot of time reading QB. I start usually with Main and move on to tutorials. I am still exploring the board as I am relatively new. It is so addicting. Then I go home in the evenings and will check again. I find myself spending more and more time on the board and taking away from my quilting. I need to finish my first quilt that I started last May!

ArtsyOne 11-14-2012 01:27 PM

I fire up the computer and head to this board first thing every day at 4am with my first destination being the Main board, then Pictures, then In Search Of. I work at numerous locations and sometimes when I try to access the board I'll get a pop-up saying that the network sees "something suspicious" which means that for the rest of the day I'm wondering what is going on without me. At today's location the firewall didn't see anything suspicious so I've been on here for about an hour. What would I do without the board to teach me things, to provide inspiration, to add quilts to my to-do list and bring enjoyment to my day?

Jackie Spencer 11-14-2012 04:03 PM

First thing in the morning with my coffee, and last thing at night before I go to bed. Main first then pictures, if I have time whatever else catches my eye. At least 2 hours a day, sometimes more. Love it!!

joyce888 11-14-2012 04:13 PM

I asked for and received an IPad last year for Christmas. I wanted it so I could sit in front of the TV at night and read the QB. I read the QB for about an hour in the morning with my coffee and newspaper, then for about two hours in the afternoon, and then all evening if I'm sitting in front of the TV.

jcrow 11-14-2012 04:33 PM

Some days I don't get on the computer at all. Those are my favorite days. Other days I check my email and always come to The QB and check the Main Section. I check the Tutes out, but doesn't seem to be new ones too often. Wish there were more. Pictures make me feel bad about my quilting, so I don't look at them too often. I check a few of the other sites, but I have a few buddies that I PM with and that's my all time favorite part. I love getting PMs every day!!

cowgirlquilter 11-14-2012 06:40 PM

Usually begin with pictures, then the main section. Because I have such an extensive stash, I no longer look at what is for sale......but used to!

Dolphyngyrl 11-14-2012 09:51 PM

About an hour before bed to wind down my day or an hour shortly after work right when I get home to relax. This board has been a very good destressor to me

Sew Freak 11-15-2012 03:47 AM

I had to do my own '12 step' to get anything done around here! So now I only spend about half-an-hour...sometimes it goes longer but I used to mostly go for the pics!!! Luv the pics of quilts or purses/bags. (sorry, I'm not an animal lover). I wish all you QB members would post more-and I wish I had something TO post! lol. My quilts (only3) are over 15-18 yrs old, in other words....n o t p r e t t y! I'm doing clothes for the family now and I'm not a fast sewer...anolther drawback of mine! But I'm depending on QB'ers to put more post out there!!! I luv'em!!

Edie 11-15-2012 03:48 AM

Maybe about 15 minutes. I don't do the repeats and there are things that I just am not interested in, but I do like Main and Chat and that doesn't take too long, unless something really grabs me and then I just type and type and type!!!!!! I just check the new messages and if they sound interesting I read on ahead, if not, I go to the next one. Yah, about 15 minutes is about it! Edie

Sandygirl 11-15-2012 03:48 AM

I check out "Recent Topics". I only read the threads that have a descriptive, eye catching title. If the title is generic, i move on. I cant possibly read all of them. Still manage to spend the first hour and half on my Ipad checking my email, Facebook, and the Quilting Board. We get up at 4:45 am so i don't feel like i am wasting too much time . I do my best sewing after 6:00 pm. I am not a morning person. But my DH leaves for work by 6:00 am.

Sometimes during the day i check QB fr new posts. Sometimes i head to the Picture section.
Sandy

teddysmom 11-15-2012 04:19 AM

The amount of time depends on what I find. I go to the main section and look for things that apply to hand quilters. Not interested in buying a machine at any time.

patsynel 11-15-2012 04:30 AM

I am up early, make a cup of tea and then to the computer/sewing room. Go to pictures first and admire the work of all you talented people. You motivate me to get started on all my projects. Thanks. pat

Todie's Mom 11-15-2012 04:31 AM

I absolutely love this QB. I look forward to viewing it first thing every morning. The members are very helpful and kind and even though I have never posted a quilt...don't know how to upload yet...but boy can I download...computer about to crash with so many free patterns...LOL. I have only been quilting a short time ..maybe a year...have made 2 queen size quilts, 2 single and 4 or 5 lap tops. l am mostly into making electronic pouches for I-pad/Nook/Kindle at the present time and also Tote Bags. I have 2 DIL and 2GD who just love these. Thanks to all of you for all of you wonderful tips and suggestions. I bought a vinyl piece to put under the foot pedal says FOOT PEDAL but it is a piece of junk. I glued cardboard under it and then glued the shelving you guys are talking about and it stays put very well.

SandiGrove 11-15-2012 04:38 AM

Every evening for about an hour still very new so am learning to navigate the site:)

SandScraps 11-15-2012 04:46 AM

I usually log on to QB at lunch time -when you all seem to be having that first cup of coffee. I go through Main, then pictures , then the links, then organisation and tutorials. I have also browsed while on particularly long phone calls. There is a void in my life when I cannot log on. Weekends I spend sewing and am too lazy to touch a computer after being glued to one all week.

quilttiger 11-15-2012 05:50 AM

Love the QB!!! My dear sis-in-law clued me in and I have been enjoying it ever since. The Main threads, Links and Resources, and General Chit Chats are my favorites...I check others when time permits...oh, I could spend hours on QB. My next challenge is learning how to upload pictures. Haven't gotten around to it since I have been busy quilting a third quilt on my new longarm....I can handle only one learning curve at a time, lol. I've learned so much from this wonderful forum....so lucky!

Scraplady 11-15-2012 06:17 AM

I haven't been a member for long, so it's hard to say what I "usually" do. The first week after I "retired" I spent hours reading miles and miles of old threads because there is such a wealth of information and wisdom to be found here! I had to nip the addiction in the bud so I can get some sewing done. I'm down to about an hour a day, some days none at all, some more. I like to browse through the pictures posted first and get inspired by all the things others are starting/progressing/FINISHing. Then I go over to the main section and see what's up.
