how often do you clean your sewing room?
I usually do a really good clean after I finish a project, with pickups here and there as needed. How about you?
We're supposed to clean???
:D :D :D |
I straighten and clear my sewing table after each project. My sewing room contains a cupboard and 4 totes that contain misc. craft and sewing stuff and they stay where they are.
My sewing room has devolved into a 'fabric storage facility' and I sew in my dining room. My perennial New Year's resolution is to clean after every project, but it usually only lasts until February. If we entertain and I need to move my stuff out, it takes days, and then it's like an archeological dig with different layers.
I straighten up after each sewing time. I do a deep clean from windows to behind furniture every spring. I'm always surprised at what I find, items that have been lost or forgotten.
You-all are good!!!!
I do a major straighten up - looks good, anyway - before we leave for Florida in November. |
I clean up as I work on a project. After a project is finished I do a major clean up to get all the scraps up that I missed.
And to make sure all my pins are not left in the carpet. |
I straighten the room at the end of each day, and swiffer the floor each morning before I start working. I straighten the fabric stacks on the shelves when they get too messy.

as needed. LOL

I try to vacumn and put everything back where it belongs after every project is finished and out the door. Sometimes it gets done, sometimes it gets over looked as I'll have 3-4 projects going at one time. I do vacumn around my cutting table and ironing board when I go to attach the binding onto the quilt so I don't add to the loose threads already on the quilt. Hate picking threads off while I'm hand sewing the binding on while watching TV at night.

When I can't find something, I find it easier to go buy another unless it's really expensive.

Joesmom, you are my idol too! I straighten the room after I finish each project. Put away all the thread, rulers, scraps, and anything I used. Sounds good, huh? BUT, I am always buying fabric, patterns, books, kits, etc. and that gets piled on every flat surface in the sewing room. I am in the process of spring cleaning right now, and all rooms will get a good cleaning, especially the sewing room. That will last a good long time, because I don't usually buy much sewing stuff in the summer. I dust and dust mop fairly often.

When I can't find my machines.
I usually have several projects going at once so cleaning after I finish on doesn't work. I usually clean when I can't stand the mess anymore.
When I can't stands no mo'.Which is today, coincidentally.
I do it randomly as I feel I must. I try to get to it after I finish the last project but I'm always so anxious to start the next one it seems that it doesn't always happen. For me I have my ongoing filing issues that shares space with my quilting books and scissors which seems like never gets caught up so right now I have a paper mess in that area. And I need to pick up all the unusable scraps that will fill dog beds etc so right now I'm in the middle of the 'clean because I must' time. Thanks a lot for reminding me (ugh).

I actually do not have a set time, but when I feel that the shelves with the fabric are looking sloppy, I straighten up a bit.
Not often enough. I just keep the door closed.
I am in 'Moonrise'--lol, but I do clean and oil my machine often.
My sewing room is the dining room, so it gets tidied whenever I have a visitor. And every Thursday, before the housekeeper/cook comes.
I love your answer!! Its probably a good thing we live so far apart, im guessing. Im in Houston Tx.

When I have to step over things on the floor.
Honestly, as I go, because it bothers my concentration to be in a mess. But, I do stack the fabrics/things that need putting away on a step stool until the end of the project.
I clean up after each project and deep clean about once a month. I have little bit of OCD so I have real issues with clutter so I try to keep everything straight.
Oh lordy. I like a clean organized room but I tend to work on multiple projects which gets messy. So I have piles on all table top surfaces along with the plastic bins of fabric for each project. Then I have piles of purchases that need to be put away as well. I am able to whip it all into some kind of shape though if I'm expecting a visitor.
I vacuum/dust/swiffer about twice a month. Luckily I have a painted floor so it's easy to keep swiffered. |

Hmmm.... When I can't stand it any more.. Actually, I TRY to straighten things after every project but since I tend to start one project in the middle of another, but that means I don't actually have an end of project. So I go back to the first sentence -- when I can't stand it any more. My room is pretty small and I have a low mess tolerance so I clean about once every 6 weeks.
Between each project
Cleaning-- a couple of times a year when the dust bunnies get too aggressive.
Straightening up- depends. I tend to try and keep my work surfaces somewhat clear since I have a very small sewing space in the doorway between our guest bedroom and my office, but I'm not very good at it :D Rob |
how often do i clean my sewing machine? uh unless it's smoking, never. when i change the bobbin, i blow out the dust but other than that, i've never cleaned it, and it's still stitching fine.
Hey Prissnboot,
I am with you. I have a tendency to do the same thing. I have to straighten up the area, clean the sewing machine of choice for this project, run the sweeper and put everything back where it belongs. Things have a way of running away while I am in the throws of piecing, cutting, ironing, and quilting. Everything goes back where it should be and that makes me feel really good. Then, I can take a deep breath and get going on the next project. |
I do clean up after each project, But it seems I am always looking for something I misplaced. I have patterns I printed out plus patterns I bought in a package. I made two purses a couple weeks ago and can't find the one pattern. I make a lot of other things besides quilts and it is a choir to keep everything straighten up. I try the best I can.

I usually clean my machine of dust and stuff after every "big" project. Also change the needle, and put away everything, and start all over again!
I have only the corner of the room beside & behind my recliner for a sewing room & it's right in the living area so everyone sees it when they walk in. My machine sits in a table directly in front of my recliner. I take care of things & keep things orderly as soon as I'm done with them to keep things neat. I work from a cookie sheet or a tub. Sometimes both. Easily moved and put away. My machine gets a thorough cleaning once or twice a week with light cleanings in between that.
