How often do you reorganize your sewing room?

How often do you clean, purge, rearrange and anything
else that makes your room neater and cleaner.
Do you do weekly, monthly, yearly? I,m due but keep
postponing it. The older I get the more I put off till
tomorrow.

FairviewFarm 04-08-2015 07:58 AM

I put supplies in proper place when done with each project. The room gets a thorough sorting, purging and cleaning once a year.

JenniePenny 04-08-2015 08:04 AM

I clean as needed, which sometimes is ongoing. No time-table. When something isn't working for me, I know it's time to make a change. And at that time, change can be gradual, rather than a big production.

kristakz 04-08-2015 08:04 AM

No schedule, but whenever I can't stand it anymore :) I suppose that might amount to sort of annually, since I do a bit of a "project collection" each January. Right now, it's in a reorg state because I'm moving my sewing room from one bedroom to another.

Pam S 04-08-2015 08:10 AM

When it gets so bad that I can't find anything or it depresses me to walk in there, then I clean it out. I'm easily distracted so I can go in with good intentions to get the room organized but get off track and never really get it done.

DresiArnaz 04-08-2015 08:46 AM

I don't have a sewing room so I organize and pick up as I go, which doesn't really bother me because I'm one of those people who will literally get physically ill in the face of too much chaos clutter ir drama(and possibly myownrunonsentences-heehee)

PaperPrincess 04-08-2015 08:59 AM

You're supposed to reorganize it??

ManiacQuilter2 04-08-2015 10:39 AM

As seldom as possible. Once clean, then I can't FIND ANYTHING!!

zozee 04-08-2015 10:45 AM

I tidy up between projects, clean (as in vacuum and dust) when I can't stand it, reorganize or rearrange as needed to make things function better for me. Or when I'm just in a mood to dejunk .

QuiltnNan 04-08-2015 11:18 AM

i do it when i just can't stand to look at it anymore or it takes too long to find things :D

ghostrider 04-08-2015 11:55 AM

I dust and vacuum when I do the rest of the house and I put things away when I'm finished with a project, but in the 8 years my studio has been a separate room unto itself, I've never felt any need to reorganize it (it used to be the living room and it has no door to close it off).

You have just described my method to a T!

decky 04-08-2015 03:13 PM

After looking at my room today, it's time to clean.

Ha! PaperPrincess....you stole my line! What? Organize? How would I ever find anything?

quiltingcandy 04-08-2015 03:46 PM

It is never a planned time for me. It usually happens because I am procrastinating over something else. It's kind of the "Squirrel" reaction when I should be concentrating on the task at hand.

Gramie bj 04-08-2015 05:12 PM

Once a year I do a deep hose cleaning room by room. If I am not willing to pack it up and move 2000 miles and live in a 2 bedroom apartment it goes. Trash, yard sale, or donation. Yes I have a large stash, and lots of extras, and this does not mean my imaginary 2 bedroom apartment doesn't have very large rooms and is packed to the ceiling. Every year I get rid of a little bit more, and find lots I thought lost. My goal this year was to get back into just 2 rooms ad still be able to find everything. I DID IT!!!!

mamagrande 04-08-2015 05:38 PM

I straighten up before a new project. Last year i arranged my room for the first time and I pull out a lot of fabric when I am working out the colors for a project and then my table is full of stuff so I need to place items back but it is never completely spic and span.....it is creating.

Mariposa 04-08-2015 05:42 PM

I do it when my space or stuff begins to bother me. Or I will work my way around the room as time and mood permit...

sewingsuz 04-08-2015 06:03 PM

I clean up after each project and put things where they belong.

Carol Jean 04-08-2015 06:33 PM

I straighten up my sewing room when I am thinking about which project I am going to work on. I am not ready to sell and ,ove away so I will be sewing for awhile.

daisydawg 04-08-2015 06:43 PM

Every Day! Always messing stuff up, changing things around trying to find things etc., etc.

daisydawg 04-08-2015 06:48 PM

Every Day! Always need to find something, mess stuff up looking then have to put things back. Really have to keep on top of it cuz if I don't I get really frustrated. Don't like working in messy area's.

soccertxi 04-08-2015 07:34 PM

I don[t think I have ever stopped! Its about the only room in the house that gets worked on constantly!

annesthreads 04-08-2015 09:45 PM

When I can't walk across the floor any more. Or if I'm feeling confused or stuck on a project - tidying up can clear my mind. But I've never been good at sticking to a routine for cleaning and tidying.

Sync 04-08-2015 11:17 PM

Unfortunately, my "sewing room" also happens to be my dining room. So any sewing, cutting, fabric, batting, etc. has to be cleaned, purged, or rearranged before dinner .......... unless hubby's working the night shift ...... lol

Aurora 04-09-2015 12:26 AM

Almost weekly. The more time I spend there, the more ideas I get about rearranging.

DebbieJJ 04-09-2015 01:50 AM

Well, I cleaned it last year, does that count?:D

This sounds like me!!

sandy l 04-09-2015 03:31 AM

Some times it seems like that is all I'm doing and then other times it looks like nothing has ever been done.:)

homebody323 04-09-2015 03:47 AM

For me, when things get too chaotic and I find myself unable to work for the mess. I just pick up one thing at a time that I know where it goes and PUT IT!, Toss it or donate it. I may deal with 1 item or 100 items in a day. Just what I want to. No quota. Before you know it, things look great.

Daisy Dew 04-09-2015 04:06 AM

Hahahaha you should see my sewing room right now! I think I need to clean perhaps today cause I almost can't see my cutting table. my downfall are scrappy quilts - cause Katie Bar the Door ALL the fabric somehow gets strewn all over! Come on over and help.

toverly 04-09-2015 04:07 AM

Whenever it's an embarrassment. Which is usually once a week or when company comes. Sometimes if I can't find something I want then, I have to stop and reorganize.

Yooper32 04-09-2015 04:12 AM

When I can't get in there any more.

Tudey 04-09-2015 04:13 AM

Reorganize? I feel like I have accomplished something if I can see the floor and the surface of my sewing table!

grann of 6 04-09-2015 04:45 AM

My sewing room is three fourths of my basement, so it is a very large area. I try to keep it relatively organized all of the time. But I have the bad habit of pulling fabric out of the closet and stacking it on the cutting table for auditioning, and then not putting it away. So when the stack threatens to spill onto the floor, it gets cleaned up. But my usual plan is to clean and organize after each project is completed and before the next one is started. I find that I don't get anything accomplished if the room is in shambles, so I try to keep it clean.

pocoellie 04-09-2015 05:17 AM

I'm with Tudey. LOL

WMUTeach 04-09-2015 05:28 AM

The sassy side of me says,"Never, because that is when I lose things" or "Never often enough". Reality.... oh, maybe once every year.

baywinds 04-09-2015 05:35 AM

[QUOTE=PaperPrincess You're supposed to reorganize it??

Perfect answer!!! :))

Sewnoma 04-09-2015 05:38 AM

When it starts to get embarrassing!

My sewing room is in what used to be the living room, so it's the very first thing people see when they come over. I don't keep it looking like a showroom or anything, but I try to keep it looking at least like a productive space and not like a quilting store exploded in there. Right now it's getting towards the "exploded" look, I'm actually planning on spending some time in there cleaning up this weekend.

I'd love to get myself set up so that I could have a couple people over for a "sew date" and have space for them to set up their own machines. A couple ladies at work have been making noises about starting a sewing club so I want to have space so I can host sometimes!

luvstoquilt 04-09-2015 07:18 AM

When the mood strikes! I will do it soon because a group I quilt with is having an auction in a couple of weeks. That works as an inspiration!
