RatherB Quilting 07-01-2010 10:06 AM

At work today, there was an overabundance of people, no animals that needed treatments, and nothing pressing that needed doing. We were all staring at one another, so I left. I got off work at 10:30 excited to come home and work on projects and be productive in my own home.

It is now 2:01 and I have no desire what-so-ever to even TOUCH my sewing machine. None. No desire to work on ANY of the ufo's that I have. None. No desire to sort through my stash, no desire to organize my thread, no desire to even think about crafting/quilting.

What is wrong with me??? I don't think I'm feverish, I am not nauseated, I feel generally fine...how is it possible that I have no desire to quilt...AND I'M OK WITH IT???
It's kinda scarey.

isnthatodd 07-01-2010 10:08 AM

Go with the flow. Do whatever does sound interesting and come back to sewing later! Enjoy :-)

jljack 07-01-2010 10:11 AM

Maybe you need a "brain break" from sewing. Sometimes my head gets so cluttered with quilting related stuff I just have to take a day off altogether!!! :-) Go with it!!

Maride 07-01-2010 10:13 AM

You are in serious need of some retail therapy, as prescribed by Dr Maride. Get yourself some pretty fabrics and thread and you will see an incredible change. The sizes and colors are up to you. By the end of the day something will be finished.

Dr. Maride....can you be my doctor forever? :P

Maride 07-01-2010 10:20 AM

Sure. The best part is that there is no charge for the consult, so you can spend more.

oldswimmer 07-01-2010 10:22 AM

You must have just needed some "down time". Its perfectly normal. Just relax and let yourself go..... and do nothing and don't feel guilty at all!

It happens to everyone sooner or later! LOL

katsewnsew 07-01-2010 11:09 AM

SLAP!!! Snap out of it! You are just a bit under the weather right now, things will be better once you read the forum more!

Jeanniejo 07-01-2010 11:12 AM

Maybe it's time you just sat down and did nothing!!! We all need to do that once in a while without feeling guilty!!!

littlehud 07-01-2010 11:14 AM

It happens to all of us sometimes. You will get over it.

mlaceruby 07-01-2010 11:29 AM

go to the pictures
you need eye candy!

DianD 07-01-2010 11:50 AM

GO TAKE A NAP! ZZZZZZZ....

Carol in Colorado 07-01-2010 01:07 PM

That has happened to me a few times too. I usually take the time to get on the computer, check this site, then get so excited I can't WAIT to run in and start sewing :)

C.Cal Quilt Girl 07-01-2010 01:59 PM

Celebrate the afternoon w/no guilt, feet up, chocolate, take a nap !! Enjoy

wildyard 07-01-2010 02:05 PM

Chocolate being the key word there...

RatherB Quilting 07-01-2010 02:08 PM

Ahhhhhh...spent the afternoon watching Glee on Hulu...:P

craftybear 07-01-2010 02:55 PM

Breaks are awesome and required at times. I do not agree with Maride. Retail therapy is great for a jumpstart - but only a start. You might not get anything finished today (Finished? are you kidding me?!) but you may be able to envision the thing that rises to the top of your list and then you'll be up and running - the machine - again.

Maride 07-01-2010 03:13 PM

Finished can have many meanings. You can finish cutting, you can finish making a block, finish the top, or the sandwich. Every step has it's own "finish". See? You can Finish something today.

quiltinghere 07-01-2010 03:45 PM

When I get like that I either take a nap or tidy up my sewing area (and basement). Then when I'm rested and feeling like sewing, the area is allllll cleared up and ready to go!

Maybe it's the body/mind telling you that you need a rest.

E.T.A. retail therapy works but it can be horribly addicting and bad on the checkbook.

I love your definition of "FINISHED" Love it!

ICU_FOSTERMOM 07-01-2010 03:52 PM

RELAX -- Your body/mind is trying to tell You something ...You may not know exactly what that is but ...LISTEN...anyways. How You feel is all YOu need to know for now...just obey Your inner self and relax. When You want to quilt again...You WILL.

CarrieAnne 07-01-2010 04:32 PM

Maybe you need some coffee, chocolate, and some time here to see all the other pretty quilts. Always helps me!

thismomquilts 07-01-2010 06:31 PM

Good question - I thought I was ready to get back to quilting today - could care less...

This has to be the best reply I have ever read. LMAO

We all need to sit back and let our brain relax sometimes. Then we can dream up even more projects to do.

annette1952 07-01-2010 09:39 PM

No matter how much you love doing something you still need a break from it now & then. We all go through it from time to time. Just take a rest. You probably need one. Our bodies let us know when.

It's kinda scarey.

Yeah, I've been that way, too. I usually use this time to look through quilt magazines, or just watch TV until the feeling passes - it always does!

Lori L 07-02-2010 05:30 AM

I was lucky enough to leave work early yesterday too. By early I mean I was home at 3pm instead of 5 or 6. I planned on tackling a quilting project but instead I had 3 very large dogs who were glad/surprised to see my home early and wanted to play. I spent the afternoon walking in the woods with the sun shining down thru the trees and a beautiful breeze cooling things off. The dogs were having a grand time chasing each other, squirrels and anything else that moved :) Nope, didn't get any quilting done but for some reason I felt like a new woman when I walked back into the house. I'll pick up my quilting project today and probably have a much clearer mind about the whole thing.

Yeah!!! I love this definition...right now, i'm going to go finish a cup of coffee! Armed with this definition, I think there are lots of things that I can FINISH today!!! Hurray!!!
Thank you for the new concept!!!

Boston1954 07-02-2010 06:01 AM

It happens. I have done that before, and for a bit longer than a day. In fact, several weeks. Think of it as a vacation. When you "get back" you will be refreshed.

TexasGurl 07-02-2010 06:58 AM

Sometimes that happens to me, I get some precious free time but all I want to do is read ... or nap !! If I don't feel like sewing, I'll go through fabrics, patterns or mags and get some fresh inspiration :)

Wow, I like that ! Great post !

sewingrams 07-02-2010 07:38 AM

I think some days are just like that.No worries the gotta sew feeling will return.Happy Quilting

peabee 07-02-2010 08:53 AM

i have been feeling this way for a while now. cant figure out why. i did manage to get out a ufo (oversized queen). i cleared out the dining room and am in the process of basting that baby. I DO NOT WANT TO DO IT. i am hoping that i will start to relax and enjoy the mindless joy of hand basting this gigantic sucker on a bunch of 6' tables. even if it's 15 minutes at a time. that may grow into a peaceful afternoon. take it easy on yourself.

Slow2Sew 07-02-2010 09:24 AM

The urgent desire to sew is strongest when I'm running late for work in the mornings and HAVE to leave home. Funny how that works.

dottie 07-02-2010 09:27 AM

Enjoy your free afternoon...just kick back and do nothing.
Dottie

bstanbro 07-02-2010 10:27 AM

If you wanted to quilt, you would. You don't have to want to. Take a break. Your desire will return. It's kind of like love-making. Enough is enough. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

sylvia77 07-02-2010 02:27 PM

I just came off a 5 day break from sewing so I've been there too!

kwiltkrazy 07-02-2010 03:59 PM

Are you running a fever?

galvestonangel 07-02-2010 05:01 PM

Accept it, there are just days like that. My sewing room is upstairs and somedays I just can't find the energy to climb the stairs. Even knowing that if I did make it up the steps, I would get involved with my UFO's and not want to come down.

RatherB Quilting 07-02-2010 06:22 PM

Yep. I enjoyed my day yesterday...in an odd "incomplete" kinda way. I missed quilting, but couldn't decide which of my MILLION projects to do.
You guys are all so funny and I love reading all your encouragement and comisserations!
I will get back to quilting eventually. I hope it's soon, cuz my MIND didn't go on a quilt vacation...it is still tumbling ideas as quickly as it was before!
For now though, I am going to go FINISH reading my LQS newsletter and get my butt to bed!
:) Night all!
