Tried that, my first choice, not gonna happen. Way too much matching for me.

I think I would just sew the blocks together without sashing for a quilt top. The triangles joined up will make a secondary kind of single Irish Chain design between the coloured squares.

Oh my gosh that's just so pretty. I was going to use 1.5 inch sashing strips. Now I'm thinking they should be 2.5 same as my Granny Square pieces. Isn't that a rule. LOL.

you can sash with black or whatever your outer triangle color is and the blocks will float. here is an example I made, sashing with white, my outer triangle color:

I don't know if that's a rule, but that was my executive decision ;-) I look forward to seeing yours.

No rules in quilting. Just do whatever works to achieve the look you want.
DebraK that is a beautiful quilt.

Since you showed us the illustration on how you cut the outside triangles, you will be working with a bias edge. I feel this requires sashing. Measure the sashing strips accurately and then pin the block to the strips. When you feed same under the sewing machine needle, just make sure the sashing strip is on top and this will assure the bias edge will not stretch. If the outside of the block stretches, you will have a terrible mess and all of your work will be for not.
