Cindy came and gave a talk to my quilt guild. It made me wish I had all those doilies and hankerchiefs of my grandmothers. You are sure to find the answer on her website.

I have a wonderful pattern for doilies. It uses HSTs and doilies cut in half.

1. Pick two squares you want to use for the HST and cut them in half on the diagonal.
2. Cut a round doily in half and sandwich the two squares with the doily in the center, cut edges in line.
3. Sew a 1/4" seam along the cut edge, open and press to the side that will have the doily showing its right side.
4. My pattern calls for them to be set on point and the effect looks like scalloped lace

I'll get back to you. It is a cool pattern.

EDIT: It is called Lace & Lemonade from McCalls Quilting, July 2004

I did a search and the magazine only stores issues back to 2008:(

Here is a picture of the pattern I referred to in my previous post. I think it is charming and I have been collecting doilies for a long time so I can make this one!

I saw this on ebay and thought it was a great use for doilies ..... although that background color was not to my liking. I would almost call this a modern quilt with nostalgic overtones. Well, maybe not but you get my meaning.

ube quilting, love the quilt you showed in the photo. That's a great idea!

A thought just popped into my head about using doilies. Wouldn't a quilt made with blue fabric as the background and doilies appliqued on the top be a great winter quilt? I am thinking it would look like snowflakes especially if one used all different shapes and sizes of doilies. Maybe it is just me but I like that idea.

Wow, this so makes me want to make something with doilies. My mo-in-law has made tons of the over the years and I'm sure no one cares about them but me so who knows...someday...maybe I will get them and now have some great ideas on what to do with them. I

I love the idea of the lemonade stand quilt but I'd do it with pink roses. And KLO's idea of white doilies on blue backgrounds sounds beautiful too! I collect blue & white china plates so that one is right up my ally. I think I'll be watching for cute doilies now LoL

I too have lots of embroidery scarves & crochet that my Mom has done. One block of crochet of a maroon color she did, I tacked onto a white pillow. The other side was done in French knots that she did. So I treasure it...

I loved that show. And also the one with the lady who visited a garden each week and talked to the gardener. Those were the good old days of cable TV.
