how to quilt old doilies??

I have boxes of old doilies, dresser scarves, napkins, etc that have old embroidery, scalloped edges, etc. Some of you will understand what I mean. I would like to incorporate these into a quilt, but not quite sure how to go about it. Some of the material is fine linen, others are of a heavier weight. How can I preserve the scalloped edges of some of the pieces? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just don't know where to begin. Look forward to any and all help.

All the ones that I have seen have the doily or runner appliqued onto a backing fabric (especially pretty with doilies), then that piece is pieced into a quilt.

You need to check out Cindy Needham. She does beautiful stuff with old doilies and linens. Here is one example: http://blog.cindyneedham.com/2014/06...-workshop.html

She does workshops, retreats, and has a class listed on Craftsy. I recommend spending some serious time perusing her website and her blog, she has a wealth of information.

I second the recommendation of Cindy Needham. I took her craftsy class and enjoyed it. She also has a book, hard to find and expensive, called Wholecloth Linen Quilts. She has done some amazing things with the types of items you have.

Thanks for the info, will check out Cindy's site and watch for any more suggestions. I have time to look up info, so thanks again.

Wish I could find a site for crocheted doilies... again, probably just appliqueing them to background fabric and then making a quilt would work??

I have some older doilies from my Grandmother and some I have bought at quilt shows and consignment stores. I am planning to use them in my landscape quilts as snow on the ground, lacy clouds in the sky, etc. I just love incorporating the old into the new.

I would also be interested in using old doilies in quilts. I was wondering how you can treat them when cutting them.

Check Pinterest for inspiration, there are some beautiful quilts. Many of them could be used for ideas without using a pattern.

Years ago - so long ago that HGTV aired mostly crafts shows - Simply Quilts had an episode featuring Sharon Rexroad. I bought her book, Doily Magic, as well as some doilies. Haven't yet used them, but I am planning to do a heart one for a valentine's wall hanging.

I've been collecting doilies, dresser scarf sets, embroidered pillow cases, etc. I plan on using some of the items in clothing for little girls, making pillow case dresses and incorporating some of the pieces into a crazy quilt.
