How to quilt this?
1 Attachment(s)
I want to machine quilt this on my personal machine. I plan to crossXXhatch the sashing, but not sure how to best approach it. Should I stitch in the Ditch around the center panel and then XX the sashing or should I SID around everything first?
Also...what suggestions do you have for quilting the center panel? |
I'm not a bit of help on quilting, but I want to say I love this quilt. It is beautiful!

well a lot of those decisions depend on your batting. how far apart does the pkging say you need to quilt it?

Thanks barny! Believe it or not...this is a baby quilt! My D-I-L wanted it to be camping/gold mining...since they do that a lot. Could not find gold mining fabric or anything close, so went with this fabric that had a camping tent. She didn't want it to be babyish either...so this was interpretation of that.

I would baste first (or pin heavily), knowing that my machine tends to push the top layer even with a walking foot.
Then I would stitch in the ditch around all the brown sashing before crosshatching. |
and if you don't like pins, there's glue basting or spray basting. i don't care for the spray basting due to the chemicals in the propellant

I would definitely stitch in the ditch around the whole thing first since you have some very long seams that can get a bit distorted when quilting. Ditching it first will help you keep those seams nice and straight when you do the rest of the quilting.
If you are planning on FMQing it, then you could have some fun doing some thread painting in the center panel. Oops, just saw that it's a baby quilt, no thread painting, that tends to get stiff. Nice quilt, you did a good job on the piecing. Rob |
Personally, I'd detail each of the pictures, then just do some small designs in frames like maybe some diamonds in the light areas, maybe quilt birds in the four corner squares, some ruler work around the on point blocks and perhaps leaf motifs along the border. That's just me. Good luck with whatever you choose to do! It's beautiful!!!

I was going to suggest just what Becky's Crafts posted. Enjoy choosing the details you outline!
