Olivia's Grammy 05-20-2011 10:52 AM

I know this has been addressed before, but I didn't need the info then. I tried searching, but can't find the info I need.
My ink cartridge broke open. I have blue ink all over both hands. I look like a Smurf.
I've tried Windex, GooGone and alcohol.
HELP

wvhill22 05-20-2011 11:04 AM

pinesol takes permanent marker off

dlbrandt 05-20-2011 11:05 AM

try nail polish remover.
how about hair spray?
hair spray takes out ink on clothing, why not hands?

running1 05-20-2011 11:15 AM

I would try hair spray since it takes ink out of clothing.... but whatever happens, the good news is that the skin on our hands is constantly replenishing itself... you'll be back to pinkish tan/creamy cafe au lait/ (? or some other lovely shade?) in no time!

Cheap hair spray!

Frying Oil, Put oil on it and leave for a while. It works on super glue. so maybe it will work on ink.

Sandee 05-20-2011 11:55 AM

Bleach.

Denatured achol

Try soaking in baby oil. If you use one of the harsher cleaners, after you wash it off, rub vasoline on your hands and wear gloves over night to help restore the skin on your hands.

Olivia's Grammy 05-20-2011 12:27 PM

So far I've tried everything suggested, except bleach. I'd like to keep my skin, but thanks for the suggestion. I didn't have any Pinsol, but that also is to strong for my hands. In between each product I've been washing my hands. So far the best thing has been good old fashioned Lava Soap. It's not quite gone, but sure is a lot lighter.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I knew you'll would respond fast.

OdessaQuilts 05-20-2011 01:08 PM

Have you tried mayonnaise? I know it sounds weird, but it just may work ... perhaps mixed in with a little liquid hand soap or dish soap? The oils in the mayo will help prevent your hands from drying out. (we use this to take the pine tar off our hands at Christmas time when we clip branches for wreaths, garlands, etc.)

Might be worth a try (it's not horribly expensive, AND you might already have some at home!). Good luck!

Hi,

Ok, I just called my DSIL - he works in printing. I asked how he gets the ink off as he never has any signs of ink on his hands. This is what he said:

10 parts water/ 1 part bleach - he sprays it on and lets it sit for a minute then uses good soap and a good moisture lotion. I always wondered why he wanted silicone glove from Avon LOL

Tartan 05-20-2011 01:28 PM

I'm glad the Lava soap is doing the job but just curious, how did you type your message? (very carefully?) :-D

amma 05-20-2011 03:43 PM

Try some baby oil, rub it in and let it sit, wipe off with paper towels. Repeat a few times :D:D:D

Barb44 05-20-2011 05:28 PM

I always use lemon extract to remove ink. Don't know why it works so well except that lemon juice is a natural bleach. If you don't have extract try the lemon juice.

craftybear 05-20-2011 07:26 PM

bar keepers friend scouring powder like you use to clean your sinks

jitkaau 05-21-2011 03:06 AM

After you have washed your hands with soap and you still have ink on them, you could try lava soap - it has bits of pumice in it. Hair spray is also a good one. Spray the area and leave for about 10 seconds and then wash it off with warm soapy water. Be careful not to break the skin if you do decide to use a very weak solution of bleach after that - and moisturise your hands thoroughly.Hope it works for you.

glowworm 05-21-2011 03:46 AM

I have not read all the replies but, try dry hand cleaner or peroxide.

redmadder 05-21-2011 03:53 AM

Nail polish remover and hair spray are made with acetone. They both remove ink but it sounds like the ink has soaked into the dry layers of skin. These will shed over the next few days so relax.

#1piecemaker 05-21-2011 04:08 AM

W-D 40 takes most anything out and even helps those sqeaky joints. Try that!!

karenpatrick 05-21-2011 04:28 AM

Hairspray

fireworkslover 05-21-2011 04:40 AM

Hairspray works to get ink off fabric. I would think it would work on skin also. Try it.

Olivia's Grammy 05-21-2011 05:22 AM

Hair spray did not work on the ink. It has faded some, but now my hands just look dirty. Thanks for all the suggestions.

lass 05-21-2011 07:13 AM

hairspray

CAS49OR 05-21-2011 07:49 AM

Maybe acetone, but it is very drying so you'll want to moisturize heavily after!

CAS49OR 05-21-2011 07:50 AM

I was told in my paint group, oven cleaner takes paint out of fabric. I don't know if that has anything to do with this issue. :-)

Love2sew 05-21-2011 08:01 AM

How about Hair Spray!

Grambi 05-21-2011 08:43 AM

If you haven't got it off yet, I think I would call the 1-800 number of the ink company. If you don't have that number then maybe HP or another big name.

BARES 05-21-2011 09:34 AM

Peel a citrus fruit and use the inner part (the white part of the peel) to scrub hands with. Also you can use some of the juice or twist the peel to get some of the citrus oil to scrub with. The oil is best but sometimes hard to get out of the peel. AND you will smell yummy too. What more could you ask for! :-D :-D :-D

try soaking your hands in milk... it works on material really well..... I wouldn't use the other products as whatever you put on your skin it goes into your system...

So far using the Lava soap several times has worked the best. I just waxed my hands as they were getting a little dry. It's almost gone, just a little around my cuticles.
