how are these pinwheels constructed?
I think this Crazy Elephant quilt is adorable. I can't seem to figure out how the double pinwheels are made. I looked at Quilters Cache and McCall's Block references and googled some night and day blocks, but none seemed to help me get this concept. It looks relatively straightforward, but I just can't envision what to do. Can anyone help me, please? Thanks in advance:)

b-quilts.com has a free printout for the Layered Pinwheel Block. She uses the Go machine but its possible the instructions may help you, as well as her tutorial on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCGh9iRftYE

It's Eleanor Burn's double pinwheels. You make them out of strips. I made some using Christmas fabrics for a Christmas swap. The most difficult thing about them is remembering to cut the blocks the same way.

Is it a disappearing 4 patch cut diagonally and the swop centres?
