Me too, also.

This works best for me also. I really like a narrow binding :)

I use 2-1/4

I sew it to the back & wrap it to the front & machine sew it down. Mine are not show quilts. with 2-1/2, the stitching on the back is 1/4" away from the binding.

maybe 3 1/2 was a misprint

2.25" usually. I'm trying to remember, though, what the quilt in my avatar required. I want to say it was 3.25"; it finished with a 1/2" wide binding on both sides. Supposedly the wider binding is "better" for baby quilts. I'm not entirely sure why ... maybe because it lays flatter???

I know some people add 1/4" to their unfinished binding width when they machine stitch it; perhaps that's how they got to 3.5". Or else lynnie could be right & it was just a typo. Sometimes I will audition a short section of binding to ensure I like how it looks. Perhaps you could try basting on a small section of 8-12" with the wider binding to see how you like it.

I use 21/2" width and a 3/8" seam. When I used the 1/4" seam it was always empty at the fold, now it is all full. I did think of going to 21/4 but decided the 3/8" seam would be better. How was the 31/2" put on, you've got me thinking it must be very wobbly, loose and no support to the edge.

I like to use a 2 1/2" strip for binding. I sew it to the back of the quilt, then bring it to the front and machine it down. I think it is more durable, and it gives me a bit wider "frame." I have done this enough that I know which notch on my walking foot to align with.

You may be on to something....this pattern is for a kids quilt. Personally, I don't like the wide binding it calls for. I'm going with a regular, 2 1/2, with 3/8 seam. It will be nice and sturdy. Now, if I can just get it done in time. AUGH!!!

I've always used 2.5" but this year, tried the 2.25" and like it so much better. All my quilts since have 2.25" binding.

I'm happy with 2-1/2" so I never change it.
